tips for successful moving of toddler from cot to bed....

well, its time for ds to move from his cot to a bed (his cot changes into a toddler bed.)

any tips/ideas/suggestions/advice on how to make this transitition as easy as possible on him and also how to endure when if he doesnt accept it well?

You might be pleasantly surprised, all 3 of my dc took to it brilliantly, only tip is to keep the same blankets etc for a while even if they are too small for the bed, it will help them see it as thier bed.

We made it all very exciting - got him some new themed bed clothes (diggers, if I remember correctly) and then got the bed all ready for him and he was soooooo excited when he saw it he climed straight in, fully clothed!!!

Never had a problem either time. Just explained that they were big enough to move into a big-boys bed and off they went.

DS1 was 23 months
DS2 was 19 months

Moved dd into a new room with a toddler bed 4 wks ago, when she was 15months, as we need the nursery for a new baby.

No problems at all, but I did make sure she spent time playing in the room before making her sleep in there, and made sure she was around for the actual construction of the bed (flat pack special ). Also, put her down for her daytime naps in there first. I think as long as the routine is the same before bedtime they should sleep ok in a new bed. I do put a quilt next to the bed though just in case she falls out, although now she has a pillow I find she doesn't travel around the bed so much.

Thank you for this everyone. Often wondered when the right time was to move toddler to abed. My DD is 15 months old but moves around the cot so much.
