Can someone please invent a dumy that stays put!

I knwo babies have to be able to spit dummies out to be sick etc. But my little chat can't keep his in unless I sit with my finger on it until he's in a deep enough sleep not to care when it comes out!

I have tried a cherry teet but it;s so big he gags on it - any ideas.

The only way I get it to stay put is by swaddling him and tucking it in the sheet so he cant spit it out or suck it back as much as he likes, but he's becoming rather good at escaping the swaddling now - as well as resiting me putting him in the position to start with!

my dd had the same problem but switching to a cherry teat worked for her, it still doesnt stay in once she is asleep and she now wakes several times a night for it to be put back in, perhaps in the long run you will be pleased your ds cant keep it in as may not become dependant on it!!

I knew a woman who tied a scarf round her baby to hold the dummy in which shocked me really.
Try rocking your baby if he doesn't want a dummy.
My ds always had one and later he always woke in the night just because he couldn't find it. It was a pain. Dd never wanted one, we tried a few times but she always pushed it out so I would never have thought to force it on her.

I used to put a little toy doggy beside ds1 head..so if it fell out he used to push it against the dog and managed to get it back in.

DS2 was a nightmare, I tried those things they clip onto pyjamas etc but no luck..

There were many, many times I wished for baby friendly sellotape..........

They do get the hang of it eventually, and then you have to go through all the hassle of getting rid of it again!

My DD1 was a total dummy addict and had one until she was three . When she was about 5 months old I got fed up of her losing it and copied an idea from a friend - I bought a small soft toy like beanie baby sized only it was a bunny with really long ears - I used to tie a dummy to the bunny's ear. She could always find the bunny. And the bunny itself became a kind of lovie. We still have it if you can't find anything similar - it is now relegated to the bottom of the toybox!

Sorry just re-read your post and saw that he has trouble actually keeping in his mouth as opposed to just losing it - that will teach me to read a thread properly - just a thought but will he suck his thumb isntead?

He settles for the night wothout it, but during the day is becoming attached to it and sticks his toung out looking for it. I am thinking perhaps to make him go without it during the day so he;s not dependant (he's only 8 weeks, it;s not too late - I hope).

DD is 3 and now only has hers for bedtime, but it;s been hard getting to that stage.

I must admit with DD2 I took hers away by the time she was about 3 or 4 months old - she did cry a bit more initially but soon stopped and I think in the long run it has been a good thing. With DD1 we have loads of photos of her with this plastic thing sticking out of her chops and tbh I cringe a bit when I see them! Plus we did have all the hassle of her losing them, having to have clean ones whenever we went out, and all of that. Plus the cost of buying the bloomin' things! But the big difference between my two was that DD1 was not breastfed but DD2 was - so I think she got her oral comfort that way! Anyway, since yours is so small I am sure that if you took it away now he would quickly adjust. Good luck whatever you decide!

Have just tried the cherry one again - i think he was just spooked by it the other day, as tonight he has kept it in for long periods.

Still not sure if I want him relying on it though - will have to ponder, perhaps try a few days without it and see how we get on.
