i should have realised, but in survival mode didnt think of it and now at 5 weeks she will only feed or rock to sleep, or dummy in early hours, do i now have to wait til 6 months to do CC or can i fix it now? she looks for her thumb when i put her in cot drowsy but cant find it yet and gets frustrated, awake and cries.

HELP!

won't be much longer until she 'finds' her thumb - dd3 was v similar and now at 4 months is a great sleeper, settles herself and is put in cot awake.
she's still a bit young and far too early to start controlled crying!!

twyfordlautrec - join the club! ds now 5 months and still will only settle for nighttime sleep wiht my boob in his mouth! and he only naps in his buggy/car seat whilst on the move in the day. If you can find a gentle way to ease her off then do but she is soooooo tiny. Let her have what she wants for now - these days pass so quickly

WigWamBam · 06/02/2007 12:00

Please don't do controlled crying on a five week old baby; she is too little to be left to cry. Feeding or rocking her to sleep won't hurt, it's what she needs at the moment and doing it now won't affect her sleeping in the long term.

agree with WigWam Bam.

Both my 2 breastfed to sleep for the first few months - by accident not design.

There will be plenty of time to adjust this when they are older e.g. mine went to day nursey at 6 months and were not breastfed to sleep there

i did say "wait til 6 mths and do CC"!! no plans to do that now ! did it with DS and it worked, at 6 mths.

just dont want to be doing 5 times a night between now and then...

DH did 5am til 7am shift last night, so feeling ok today, will wait and see if she starts to settle with her thumb at 3/4 mths

thanks for sympathy

Don't buy the "too late", "bad habits", "rod for backs" lines. Babies change all the time, yours is tiny, I second Enid, just enjoy her and do whatever it takes to survive.

Jenski · 09/02/2007 16:37

I second Enid too (or should I say third..?) Enjoy your little little baby.

Mumpbump · 09/02/2007 16:50

You can do a form of modified cc for babies under 6 months - I had to when ds was 2 mo because rocking him to sleep was killing my back!! But at 5 weeks, I would just enjoy the cuddles. If you want a link to the webside for the modified cc, let me know and I'll post it...

Way too young to form habits yet! Just enjoy cuddling and snuggling, and smelling her!
My dd is now 7 months old, and too nosey for proper snuggles. Miss my little baby already!
