Apparently, I snore very badly . DH has got used to it over the years but recently a situation has arisen and it's made me really upset.
DD has a school sleepover coming up at school and they have asked for parent volunteers. DD wants me to go but there is no way I can do it. I will never live it down let alone dd.
Have decided I'd like to try something now to help reduce this embarassing problem. Anyone tried anything and found it good?
I almost bought a nasal clip thing that I saw in a catalgoue but decided it seemed a bit cheap and tacky. Would be interested to know if they work or not though.
TIA

those nasal clips don't work - I tried them with dh but then he now has to sleep with a CPAP machine anyway - very sexy

whoopsfallenoveragain · 20/01/2007 17:48

oh and send ds

me23 · 20/01/2007 18:07

Ive been told that I snore too! I didn't believe dp at first, thought I was way too sexy to snore . So dp recorded me on his phone one night and I snore like a beast lol

just today I brought some breathe right nasal strips!

Will try them tonight, I'll let you know if they work.

Sparkler1 · 20/01/2007 18:07

thanks me23 - I've been caught on camera as well and it's not a pretty sight

Hi Sparkler1

Suggest the old tennis balls sewn into the back of your PJs.

OR....take a couple of bottles of wine and get quietly drunk with the other parents so they snore too!

Actually snoring isn't the worst thing you could do in bed. My DH and my DD both fart in their sleep and then giggle at the noise! How on earth SHE picked this up I have no idea (she's three months old!)

Sparkler1 · 20/01/2007 21:36

Thanks for letting me know about the clip thingy Whoops. Glad I didn't order one now.

Sparkler1 · 20/01/2007 22:04

lol rachelhill - I won't go into that one.
C'mon there must be more snorers out there. Is anyone going to be brave enough to step forward and admit it?

Paisleylove · 20/01/2007 22:26

Yup. Me!!! Devastatingly emabarrassed. Captured on glorious technicolour... Mind you...You know that deliciously icy cold dish called revenge? Got the DH - face down in his dinner with the beer belly spilling over the boxer's waistband (V. ample) snoring into the rice... Oh. And the stills too!

Sparkler1 · 21/01/2007 09:01

lol - so can someone find me a cure - purrrrrlease!

I had another thought Sparkler could you say to dd you were staying then when she was asleep go home then go back early before she woke?

Sparkler1 · 21/01/2007 09:04

lol - nice idea. To be honest I'm not sure why I'm too worried. It's not like the kids are going to sleep much are they? Will be far too excited!

whoopsfallenoveragain · 21/01/2007 09:05

You're probably not the only one that snores either!

ludaloo · 21/01/2007 09:08

Awwww Sparkler! You are soo considerate! I'd just go regardless!!
My dad is a big snorer, I remember my mother going witless trying to stop him! He now uses the nasal stips me23 mentioned...they do seem to help apparently.

My dd1 who is 5 snores something rotten too! I usually dab a feww drops of Olbas Oil on a hanky and shove it in her pillow case, it seems to help her a bit...you could try something like that??

Sparkler1 · 21/01/2007 10:31

hehe not sure considerate is the right word. Just want to be able to show my face at the school gate on the Monday morning.

Come ON, Sparkler1!!! What happened at the sleepover??? Please tell me you had the foresight to ply the yummy mummies with loads of red to out-snore you?!? P.S. woke with a v. sore throat this morning.... Do you think I'm going down with a cold?

MegaLegs · 15/02/2007 20:42

A fellow snorer here! One of my first MN posts last year was a plea to help me stop snoring as we were staying in a cottage with loads of other families in a big dorm.

My sisters and parents all snore too and so far we have not found a cure.

Paisleylove · 15/02/2007 20:53

Hell! I live with Mr Invent-a-snore. He's soooo irregular it's a miracle he's not been stabbed with my alarm clock (He'd have to hold still a while...) He does the whole shabang. Breath holding, snorting, puffing, gulping, window rattling and , my favourite, tutting, because I woke HIM up...

deaconblue · 16/02/2007 14:38

I've been using snoreze strips which you put on the roof of your mouth. They don't work all night, but I'm worst as soon as I nod off so they allow dh to get to sleep. got them in Boots

DaddyCool · 16/02/2007 14:45

I've tried everything and it's really getting me down. I even had surgery on my shnozz.

the only sure-fire solution I can see is something called 'mandibular splints' it's a rather sexy (not) retainer thing that goes in your mouth at night and brings your lower jaw forward a bit to stop the snoring.

the only catch is, is that you have to go to some special clinic. the dentist can probably do it but my dentist just looked at me as if I was nuts when I showed him the website printout of them! Expensive too.

Paisleylove · 16/02/2007 21:23

Dear God!!! Can you imagine a better bender than the whole lot of us crowded together for a drunken snorgy?!? Ahem... My DH tells me that I dribble a lot & suck my thumb too. If anyone's going to arrange this remarkable evening PLEASE can I send a body double?

Monkeytrousers · 16/02/2007 21:36

I snore if I go over 10 stone. I have been snoring since xmas.

Paisleylove · 16/02/2007 21:46

Thanks soooo much for that!!! I've just had flu hadn't eaten a proper meal in 5 days, no alcohol for a week (miraculous with my 2 DC's) and weighed IN at 10 stone I need a solemn promise that if I lose a lb I'll be a nice girl again?!?

treacletart · 16/02/2007 22:57

Dh has been using a JML spray bought from boots - works really well for him.

Monkeytrousers · 17/02/2007 12:16

Paisleylove · 17/02/2007 18:35

Uh-huh. I can lose that pound this week. Right then Monkeytroos, let's get that snorgy organised......... (nooooooo!!!!!) As if!!!

And where is that Sparkler1? She's got us all to spill our guts and abandoned us. Has she got a bag on her head still from the sleepover? We need to know how it went!
