night / day mix up - how long does it take to reverse?

My ds is 4 wks old & seems to not yet know the difference between night & day (ie he can sleep like a log all day & be awake from 3 am onwards ).

I understand that this is quite common but can please someone let me know in their experience how long it takes for it to be reversed?? I am trying to keep naps to under 2 hours. Any other advice??

THanks

OK. Thanks. How long do you advise for a day time nap & how many in one day?

Congratulations on your baby. Sounds like you have a good sleeper on your hands, tweak it gently and you'll both be getting enough kip.
When my two were a month old, I think they were having 3 naps a day. Went a bit like this...
7.30: wake up
9.00/9.30: nap (for an hour, or 45 mins)
12.00ish: nap (hopefully this was a long one -- till 2.30/3ish if the stars were in alignment )
catnap at 4.30ish in buggy -- half hour or so
7 bed

zaki - naps were erratic at that stage (still ar some days !) ds basically ate, gazed about a bit, slept on and off all day. I alwasy tried for a 7pm bedtime but this was often around 9 - 10pm bythe time lo had settled.
