Hi, I've posted before about my DS 15mths who has been waking progressivly earlier and earlier in the mornings.
He's always woken around 6 and we came to accept that. But since the clocks changed it became 5.30, then 5, then over christmas started to wake before 4.30 and wanted to be up for the day.
We tried everything, looked at all the advice and from various sources came up with this:
We've completely changed how he naps. As he was up so early, we used to let him go back to bed by 8 and have a couple more hours sleep (which I was glad of because he was so exhausted).
We changed this so that now I keep him up til 9.30, and put him down for no longer than 30mins
Then I put him down after his lunch, (between 1 and 1.30) and let him sleep for as long as he wants, as long as its not any later than 3.30. He goes to bed at 7.
Since doing this for the last week he has slept til 6.00 most days
I've accepted I'm never going to have a luxurious lie-in but after 4.30 rises 6.00 is like a dream!
Not sure why it works, but I think its something to do with changing which part of the night they have their deepest and lightest sleep.
I know it won't work for everyone but I hope some people can use it or adapt it to help their early waker.
In the meantime I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the success continues...

Just wanted to say that ds was always an early riser, but now he's 4 he wakes at about 7.30 - sometimes even 8!!!!

it improved from about 2 1/2 - 3 years - so it does get better.
