Moving to own cot in own room - when is it safe??

My DD is now 6 months and has been sleeping in her moses basket in our bedroom, she is now too big for it and needs to move into her cot but I am worried about SIDS.

I know the recommended time to keep a baby with you is 6 months but I dont think I will be able to sleep when I first make the move as I will need to keep checking she is ok!

I know I probably sound like I am worrying too much but would like others thought on this, thanks.

i moved ds into his own room at about 3m but we did have an under mattress monitor til he was 12m. i dont know if you can borrow one.

What you are feeling is entirely natural! I felt exactly the same! We waited for 6 months and then moved. Although SIDS is also known as "cot death" it has nothing to do with being in a cot, hence the more accurate "sids". More importantly the risk has passed by the time they get to 6 months.

It's ok to make the move and then check as often as you want to. After a while you will know that she is ok and it won't be so stressful. I sat in our front room and cried the night we moved ds as I felt like we had abandoned him (!!)
That said, we soon adjusted and it was rather nice to have our room back!

Hope it goes well for all of you. Let us know how you get on!!

Hi thanks for the response sorry for delay in replying had a very busy new year!

I know once we have made the move I will get used to it but think the mattress alarm is a great idea and will probably help me feel better at first so we are going to get one before we move her!

will update you on how we get on!

we moved our baby out at 4 weeks - mainly due to the incredible amount of noise she made when she slept. she is a really noisy baby anyhow.
we moved her next door and even though we could still hear her clearly there was a bit of distance which meant we would only wake if she needed us. she's 18weeks now and i still go and check, and keep baby monitor volume on v high - its only natural, but i'm really glad she's out of our room!
good luck.
