Worried about muslin for comforter at night

Despite being offered a number of soft toys or snuggle type blankets/squares, my 8 month old DS has started sleeping with muslins. I know they are breathable but read they shouldn't be bigger than 35cm so they can't get round his neck.

All the muslins I can find are much bigger though. Any ideas? Am I over worrying? He does pull it across him a lot so worried he'll get wrapped up. I could sew the bigger ones but worried my sewing skills aren't up to scratch haha!

Won't the threads all unravel if I cut them up?

Fold one, and stitch.

Do you not just stay with them until they fall asleep and then remove them? that's what we do with our 6mo for any of the toys / blankets

Tie a knot in them. That's what I did and my dd who is twelve still sleeps with hers...

Ok thanks. I thought of sewing so maybe I'll give it a go and just check it won't all come apart. I tried taking it away once he's asleep but if he stirs in the night he settles himself if he still has it, so if I take it away he wakes up and cries

I don't think they will unravel as you can buy the fabric in fabric shops.

They do unravel merrily if washed or mauled. But all thw sewing yoy need to do is fold the cut edge over twice and straigjt stitch along it

Dd2 (7) still sleeps with hers in her mouth and dd1 have hers up at about age 6. They both had Normal size ones and I wouldn't say much bigger than 35cm

Wash them on your hottest setting to shrink.

DS1 (5) always had a normal muslin and was fine. DS2 (4 months) now has one too. Never even thought to worry about the size of them! But Mothercare do some nice multicoloured ones that are a bit smaller than average, they might suit you better
