crying in the night but appears to be still asleep?

my 13 wk old ds has gone with out his night feed now for just over a week. Has has however started to wake any time from 4.30am - 6am and cries (he is definately not hungry). However when i go into him he appears to be still asleep. i pat him gently on his chest to settle him and this usually works. i know i shouldnt complain because he usually sleeps from 7pm until 6-7am with a feed at 11pm. but i was just wondering if any one either experienced the same thing or can offer any suggestions as to why he is waking up (well, not actually waking up but crying and needing comfort/reassurance) thanks in advance x

might just be a period of light sleep and he needs a little help to go back off.......x i wouldn;t worry too much especially as he is settling back to sleep..sounds like a wonderful sleeper!

hi lulu - he is a pretty good sleeper, i was just a little curious as to why he was stirring at the same time every day. I think i am just being a little mean really as i was hoping that once the 'night feeds' stopped i would be able to sleep through, but as yet this isn't the case. unfortunately due to dh being at work i am the one who has to get up for ds in the night and once i have been woken it takes me a while to get back to sleep because i find myself waiting for baby reid to wake again (iykwim)

My daughter did that too. My doctor told me its just her sleep-wake periods - she wakes just enough to realize she's alone and crys for touch. She always went back to sleep or resettled I guess when I patted her too. Don't fall into the pattern of bringing her to bed so much though...my daughter really cried when we stopped doing that.

it's early days reidie! but he is doing so well....so if he is going 7 - 6 with one feed. that is excellent....it will pass...x

i never take him into our bed, i know a lot of parents do but it's just something i dont realy like the idea of. i have numerous friends who have done it and have struggled to get their children back into their own bed (one still struggling 3 years on!)
