Naps much better with the CM than at home -- WHY??!!

DS is now 12 months and has always been a short napper. On a good day he'll take a 1 1/2hour nap after lunch when he's home with me. Lately at the CM's his naps are 2 - 2 1/2 hours long!!! Why is this? We follow the same pre-nap routine and put him down roughly the same time each day and as far as I can tell, the room at home is just as dark and quiet as the room at the CM's. I'm baffled. But more than that I'm concerned that at home with me, he's not getting the sleep he really needs. He's so much better after a day with the CM -- not totally knackered at dinner and bathtime and more relaxed at bedtime. Not to mention, I would really love the extra down time! Anyone else with this experience?

Hi, my neighbour is a child minder and i have seen how kids are with her compared to in their parents company. one eg a little girl at home would run roit at lunch/dinner time, would not eat at the table and would just pick at the food. with the cm she would sit at the table and not get down until she had eaten all of it.
i think the biggest thing to remember is that all kids know how to play their mums and manipulate them. i would simply say thats just the way it is. sorry i could not be more help!

Also - The environment at the C/Mers may be very stimulating and your baba may just need a bit more sleep (iyswim)

Try him a bit earlier for a short nap (say 11) then a second short nap after lunch
