5 month old - wakes 4-5 times a night

My 5 month old dd wakes every two hours at night like clockwork but will settle each time after shush patting for 10 minutes. Haven't had more than 2 hours of sleep at a time since 14 weeks when she used to sleep 8 to 5. Any advice?

It's perfectly normal, I'm afraid! You're doing exactly the right thing - don't talk or pick up, just shush & pat.
We all have periods of 'waking' about every 45-60 mins - we just need to learn that it's sleep time not wake time. Some do this earlier than others.
Mine slept 11 - 6 from not much more than a month old, but went thru wakeful phases at about 18 months and 3 years.
You'll face this from time to time over the next few years - maybe not every 2 hours, tho!
Try to get naps during the day if you can.

My ds is 18wks and is also waking up regularly overnight. He's never been the best sleeper but things have definetly got worse over past few wks. He wakes anytime from 1am onwards. I'ii offer him a feed at 3 ,which he takes and usually after that he is just awake, chatting away to himself. This morning he finally went back to sleep at 5 (awake from 3). I'm thinking of cutting back on his day time naps to see if that has any effect. Seems to be common problem at this age.
