DS is 12 wks old and weighs 14 lbs +.breastfed with one bottle formula at night.since the last 2 weeks he has been waking up on the hour everyhour and will not stop crying till i have fed him, which might be only for 5 mins. The HV says he is overfeedng because he has put on 3 lbs in 2 wks.He takes about 6.5 oz at 11.00pm but wakes up again at 1.00 am looking for a feed.
he goes atleast 3 hours between feeds at daytime and naps well.
I would like to think it s some kind of a growth spurt, but should it last this long?As a newbrn, he would wake up only twice at night.
hE sleeps in his own room in a sleeping bag.i am so exhausted.has anyone else had this experience with your 12 wk old?

kamanchi, my son whi is 14 wks today can only stay awake for 1 hour at a time max. he then needs a nap of one hour. if i try to keep him awake, he starts rubbing his eyes, then whingeing and finally howling like a banshee.

I've read in a couple of sleep books that babies' body clocks don't register the difference between day and night until 40 weeks...yes, 40 weeks. Until then, they take their sleep cues from their parents so it can take a while for them to settle into a day/night pattern.
Also remember that definition of 'sleeping through' is only 5 hours. My dd has always been a restless sleeper, but having read lots about it, it would seem that this is pretty normal - it's those babies who sleep long periods when you want them to that are the rarities! I wish I had one!

My breast/f DD was sleeping gr8 up to 12 weeks and now wakes 3/4 times a night. How long can growth spurt last? I'm exhausted... Feeds well during day , 3 hours and does have naps.

Was going to try formula for last feed will it make any difference??
Help!!!

i tried giving formula at the last feed and it made no difference at all.i think a growth spurt should last only a few days in an ideal world. but as i can testify from personal experience, it lasts ages!
i was the one who posted this thread in the first place. my ds is now 14 wks plus and is waking up less frquently at night. so hopefully, it should be a passing phase and things will get much better for you.
