7mth Old wont sleep in cot during day

Hi all, I have just recently started to look after a 7mth old baby I have 2 older kids myself. Shes fine except...sleep..she will not sleep for me during the day..i have her from 8 to 4.30 she might sleep for 25 mins in the morn then its a struggle for afternoon sleep. At home her mum said she could sleep for up to 2 hrs at weekends. She sleeps in same cot at home. I have tried the controlled crying where she roars for 20 mins then falls off to sleep but then twenty mins later awake again. Any help would be appreciated. thx.

Would she nap in her buggy? My ds is nearly 7 months and he'll take short naps in his cot with a lot of effort, but if I rock him off to sleep in his buggy he'll do a couple of hours at a stretch, which is a new discovery and fantastic...

Thanks for reply..yes she will sleep in buggy for half hr..so i might revert to that her mum would like her to sleep in cot but if she wont thats it..shes too clever ha ha. X

The new environment is likely to be unsettling for the baby. I would say that controlled crying is not helpful to her settling in with you.

Take your lead from the baby's Mum, ask her what she would like you to do in the event of baby not sleeping in the cot. Follow what the Mum suggests that she tries at home, also be ready with some idea of your own (like walking her in the pushchair, as mentioned above).

Use the buggy - ds2 only naps thereo or in the car if we are out(he's 16 mo)
I tried and tried to get ds1 to nap in a cot but it was just slit of stress and tears all round and no sleep. So I am just going with what works this time
