may i ask what tog quilt your lo has.

dd (21months) has a duvet 4.5tog and i was thinking of getting thicker one for winter, but was told by friend that she shouldnt have one any bigger. anyone know why and what has yours got.

I accidently got ds a 10.5 one in a starter pack when we put him in a big bed and he is absolutely roasting in it. so we had to go and buy a 4.5 one.

you can always put him in more layers if he is getting cold. but children are less able to regulate their body temperature i think, so it's easier for them to overheat

DD is 5 and half and still has 4.5 tog. Although have bought her a 9 tog for when it gets cold. Last year she was chily and had to have extra blankets with it.

both mine have light ones(they are 11 and 14) but always have . when it gets too cold I just put i fleecy blanket on top as ds gets REALLY hot

up until about 2/3 years mine are in a 2.5 tog sleeping bag which I THINK is the same as a 5 tog quilt (because the heat gets trapped in the bag

after that they are in a bed with an 8 tog quilt but hardly manage to keep it on them, legs and arms everywhere!

Ds (2.10) has a 4.5 tog and is fine under that, he's still in short pajamas at night and nothing in the day because he gets so warm. Apparently small children have a faster heart rate so their core body temperature is higher than an adults', therefore they don't need as many togs. Someone else also mentioned that they are less able to regulate their temperatures. If you're worried that she's going to get cold you could always add a couple of extra layers of clothing rather than a thicker duvet.

4.5 DS had a 10.5 one at first and was too hot ever to go under it.
He is nearly 6 and DD 3.5. They both are hotter than I ever am at night.
I also read that more air gets trapped by LO's as there is more duvet in relation to the size of their bodies in the bed so it is hotter for them - don't know how true that is though

My 9 and 4 year old each have a 4.5 tog duvet - and that's enough on all but the very coldest nights (when I pop a blanket over the top). They get so hot in bed, both of them. For most of the year they have a sheet and a fleecy blanket - the duvets come out about October!
