Anyones LO grown out of wanting to nap on them?

Just that question really....
I have a 6mo that loves to nap in my arms despite all my best efforts to get her into the cot for naps. She will sleep in there occasionally for no particular reason, so I know she can do it. I'm just wondering if this is a developmental thing that she'll grow out of (if yes- when?) or if i need to step up trying to sleep train her before she goes to nursery at 10mo?

Used to sleep on my chest for hours. Now he buggers off to the couch with his bottle and his blanky on his own. I'm completely replaceable. Little sod.

I think he was about 8 or 9 months. He's now 19 months. When we had issues with cot transfer I put my V pillow in with a fleece blanket over, so he felt quite snug. Maybe worth a try?

YES! I was you! DS slept fine until 3mo then only slept on me.
I just embraced it as I was lazy - much to the horror of the HV who said I must get him in a cot.
Well, i tried once and it was miserable -he wasn't ready.
I let him nap on me - I got a thermal cup of tea ready and left biscuits on the arm of the chair and watched all of Netflix.
Night times we would co-sleep but evenings he was in my arms.
I think he started sleeping out of my arms for naps around 7/8 months.
When he was in the midst of napping on me, I never thoughy it would change but my instinct said to worry about it later, and as it happened, he sorted himself out.
Do what feels right for you. If you want to try gentle training, try that.

That makes me feel a lot better. Im happy with sitting doing nothing (and getting thru lots of the walking dead, breaking bad and the fall!) when she's asleep on me as long as i know its something that will fix itself and I'm not just getting her into bad habits! My gut tells me that she'll do it when she's ready so i'll just roll with it I think.
Like i said she goes to creche at 10mo and i guess thats a long way off in baby time.....

I have my 7 month old asleep on me now. He will sleep in his cot at night happily but not a bloody chance for daytime naps
He starts his settling in sessions at nursery beginning of May and then full time early June. I don't know if I should enjoy the cuddles whilst I can and let them deal with it or try again to get him to nap in the cot....

Mine's just the same- nights will go in cot no problem but daytime not a chance. Having the same dilemma too. Just the thought of how tough it'll be for her to be in nursery (new place, new people etc) and have to start sleeping in the cot all at once makes me want to have it fixed before then tho. I guess I'll keep trying for another month or 2 and worry about it then.
Altho, one of my friends has 2 in nursery and says that they're brilliant at getting babies to sleep- they do it all day every day.

I could spend half an hour sshhhing and rubbing his head whilst he cries and he'll finally fall asleep, he'll sleep for 20 mins and that's it. I'm then left with a grumpy tired baby whereas if I just let him sleep on me, he sleeps much longer and I can watch say yes to the dress for 2 hours

I might ring the nursery and see what they say. I worry that if he finally gets used to it and then has to get used to the cot there anyway it seems a wasted exercise!
PFB problems

Yup, napped on me until 10 months and then to be honest we both sort of decided enough was enough! He was getting a bit too big to be comfortable and wasn't having proper sleep. He's still not in his cot now though for naps, he's in his buggy downstairs. I think for him, cot is for night time and that's that.

Ds went to nursery at 12 months and he's managed the transition to cot napping there well although doesn't sleep as long as he would in his buggy.

Does your dc self settle in the cot at night? If so that will make the nursery nap a bit easier - or at least it seemed to for us.

Exactly the same. Daytime naps were on me or in the pram until DD was about 8-9mo. If she did sleep in the cot during the day it was a little half hour catnap and nothing more. Literally just before I went to work she started napping well in her cot.

Generally most babies will quickly learn to sleep in a different place or way while in childcare, because it's the only option open to them. Definitely talk to the nursery if you're worried but it's a really common worry on these boards and most kids do find a way to sleep. It might take a little while for them to fully settle remembers with horror moving 2.5yo DD to a new CM and the nightmare that was keeping her naps going but they will.

(nannyplum, I am not married, I can't imagine anything worse than planning and being the centre of attention in a wedding, I think the money spent on one dress is ridiculous, I would look shocking in a long white dress... But I'm also addicted to Say Yes to the Dress )

Ahhh this makes me feel better, I think I'm just going to carry on as we are and see what happens. He can self settle at night so as long as nights are okish I'm not going to worry about day naps for now and enjoy the last of my mat leave.

YoSaff, I'm engaged it'll be a long engagement though, weddings are so bloody expensive! but the thought of dragging my whole family to the dress buying and parading round a shop in front of all those people in a $8000 Pnina Tornai monstrosity whilst everyone fawns over me upsets me a lot! Kleinfields is not for me

I agree - I always felt that dc usually only nap until they're about 3 anyway, so I didn't stress about them as long as ds got some daytime sleep. Much better to focus energies on trying to get good night routines IMO!
