10 months old and sobbing in his sleep

DS is a cheery chap all day but in the past month has woken us up a few times sobbing quietly in his sleep. We don't know how to respond - cuddling wakes him but I can't bring myself to ignore it. He doesn't ever cry quietly during waking hours - he's either sunny or briefly roaring with indignation and nothing in between. Has anyone else's baby done this? What helped?

A reassuring shush and pat on the shoulder, without moving or waking DS, should do it.

Aw bless, yes mine (14 wks) started whimpering during naps around this age and then started crying out while trying to get to sleep.
I understand babies naturally whimper and cry out while they fall asleep, and in between sleep cycles. You are best to let them re-settle on their own.
Time 5 mins, if they are crying more then cuddle without fully waking them up!

Oops i read 10weeks from your title.
Still the 5 minute rule may work for yours.
