Hi, I really need some advice. My 5 month old dd had started waking in the night due to needing her dummy, so we decided to go cold turkey a week ago. She is now sleeping through the night no issue but the day is another story. I have been giving her a comforter and letting her cc but I've realised she has started scratching her neck as she gets so upset. She already has eczema and her neck is normally quite rashy so I'm worried this is doing more harm than good? Should I stick with it or let her have dummy in the day? Please any advice

Personally, I found a dummy to be invaluable well into toddlerhood (teething, illness, tiredness, etc) so the idea of making a very young baby go cold turkey with a dummy feels counter productive. But all babies are different obviously. Mine was VERY attached to her dummy and I didn't want to deny her the comfort it gave. Eventually we got it down to bedtime only, and then she gave it up with no upset when she was ready.

Let her have the dummy.

When she has the emotional capacity to sleep without a dummy, it will cause no problem to get it off her (probably with a bit of bribery). That's about pre-school age, mine were about 4 years old.

Problems only arise when you remove the dummy too soon.

Assuming you are only using the dummy for helping her to sleep, rather than leaving it in her mouth all of the time even when awake and happy, then leave her be.
