Apologies for this ranty ramble of a message.

DD is almost 14 months and now outright refuses a nap. It gets to midday and she is shattered but will not sleep. I give her milk and a clean bum. lullaby music is on. I have rocked, shushed, patted, sat on the floor and held her hand for 3 hours and she just wont sleep. bedtime she is fine unless she is ill so I don't get it. She is tired but just wont give in which means come 4pm she is horrible whingey massively over tired mess. Dp works 5 out of 7 days and usually gets home after she's gone to bed. I have no one to help me. Its just me and her. Right now she is in her cot screaming and I have come to sit on my bed to try and calm down.

Mine never napped either, so around 4pm I used to take her out for fresh air in the pushchair if she was being a grumblechops - and she would either fall asleep or go into a bit of a trance going over the paving slabs (k-chunk, k-chunk motion seemed to calm her)

napping is not compulsory.

I sympathise with you so much Hun! It's total fluke if my DS goes down for naps, if I'm really desperate though walking with him in the pram defo helps, if nothing else I get out and get some fresh air and sometimes if I'm lucky he does fall asleep. Sending sleepy vibes xx
