Looking for some robust, washable, waterproof cot/bed mats - any ideas?

When I had DS over 10 years ago, I had two fantastic 'puddle pads' – fairly thick organic cotton/wool mats, maybe 60cm x 90cm at a guess, with an absorbent outer layer and then a waterproof core. They could absorb loads, kept DS's cot dry, were great to take with us when travelling, and meant I didn't need to change all the bedding if his nappy leaked or he was sick – just put another pad down. They washed brilliantly.

I'm now expecting again, due in a month, and haven't been able to find similar online. I've lost the two I had for DS, and can't remember where I got them. I can see quite thin mattress protectors on Amazon, which don't look like they'd absorb much (more like liquid would sit around on the top), or look like they'd be crinkly like a crisp packet. Grin But nothing else quite like what I had before.

I don't want to use loads of disposable sweaty pads that feel like you’re lying on a bin bag. We plan to have this baby in with us for some months, so a couple of robust, comfy, washable pads to lay him/her on would be great.

Has anyone got any ideas where I could get some from, at a not-bank-breakingly-expensive price? Thanks.

Hippychick do a brilliant thick mattress protector with a waterproof inner layer. It's like a really thick brushed cotton, and no crinkly plasticky feel. Washes really well, but takes some time to dry.

That's perfect, YAsoNBU. Why couldn't I find this after scouting about on Amazon for what felt like ages?! Anyway, I've popped two in my basket and off we go. Thanks so much.
