Hello new to mumsnet. I have an 8 week old and a 2yr old. 2yr old has just started giving up her daytime nap-crying and protesting loudly if i put her down. Just when i need a break!Has anyone else has had similar experience?

Yes my 2.3 yr old dd is doing the same thing and I have a tiny one too like you. I sympathise deeply, it's a nightmare! I thought she'd keep it up for much longer.

My 19 month dd has started dropping hers - not every day yet but I daresay that'll happen just as I have baby number two next spring. Could you try some quiet time or a DVD instead?

CrocodileKate · 17/10/2006 21:02

Yep, dd is 2 and 4 months. She gave up her naps quite a few months ago. Some days she copes really well and other days she really struggles between 5pm and bed time.
The problem now though is if she does happen to fall asleep in the day she will not go to sleep at bed time.
Could your dd's be as a reaction to the new baby though? maybe once she gets used to the change she will settle back down again. I would just make her have a very quiet time at nap time and see how she does.

And I type too slowly!

TheDaVinciCod · 17/10/2006 21:03

mine gave them up "Officially" htn e kept havign them
then got tot he stage where they needed three a week but theere was no spooky way of finding out IN ADVANCE wheich dasy theyewere

liath · 17/10/2006 21:04

Just to add - I've given up putting dd down at nap time as she goes mental, if she naps at all it's on the sofa with me singing blinking nursery rhymes! Very sweet but hardly user-friendly .

Yes we have started having quiet cbeebies time but ends up leaping around room like a nutter. By bathtime she is miserable-not everyday. Just wish shed have the odd nap. She doesnt even sleep in the car!

im a mean mummy, i put my 2year old in pushchair andtell him hes going to sleep and thats that!he mustbe tired because he does fall asleep after 5/10mins of rocking it. ive tried keeping him awake andhe falls asleep at 6 for half hour then i have him up till 11pm!not good

Peggotty · 17/10/2006 21:06

Is she still in a cot? If so, maybe put her in the cot with some books and couple of favourite toys. Or if she is in a bed, just put her in her room for half an hour and explain she is having a quiet time on her own to play with her toys or look at books. Might not work but maybe worth a try. My dd is 20months and is showing every sign that naps will be a thing of the past. I still put her up in her cot for up to 45 minutes if she doesn't sleep, although she is quite happy up there playing with her teddies and listening to music. Is an absolute bugger when they start to drop the daytime nap!

TheDaVinciCod · 17/10/2006 21:06

ok so you sit with her adn tlel her if she doenst wathc it it goes off

Mrsmoocow · 17/10/2006 21:10

I have tried the book/toys in cot but she still cries. It may be a reaction to the baby or terrible twos. I think im just going to have to accept it. DD is also 2yrs 4mths.

dd hasnt had naps since she was about 18months i forced her to drop them as she was going to bed later and later - we do have quiet time though where she has her own special cushion and blanket and lies on sofa watching a dvd for half an hour

she is in bed by 630 - 7pm and gets up about 830 9 am so not to bad really
