My DS is 16months old and I rocked him to sleep ever since he was born I had a lot of negative comments from 90% of mums around me telling me I'm making a rod for my own back but it just felt right! 3 weeks ago DS just didn't want to be rocked so I put him in his bed with a bottle while I sat with him and ever since he goes to sleep like an angel even for naps (weekends when his not with his childminder) so I guess I just wanted to share that cc or CIO is not for everyone go with your instinct do what you feel is right if my DS can go to sleep without rocking on his own time any one else can too! Happy Christmas Xmas SmileXmas WinkXmas Grin

Did you and your childminder rock him, every sleep and nap for nearly 16 months?

sososotired · 21/12/2014 06:44

Yes nearly I mean on the odd occasion he had naps in the car/ pushchair while we were out and about :)

Dd1 did the same - after 15 months she just pointed at her cot one day asking to be put down, and thereafter didn't want rocking anymore. I'm biding my time til dd2 16mo does the same....come on dd2!!

Ps we did try CIO when he was 9 months EPIC FAIL he got into such a state got sick everywhere stuck too it for 3 weeks but no improvement so I went back to cuddles and rocking!

Thank you for this post, ds2 is not sleeping well and I am trying to be patient, he is 10m, so only six or do more to go!! Smile

I rocked my two for 12 months & 14 months respectively. They both switched to self settling overnight and very happily.
If I'm honest, I kind of miss it now. They are 2.2 and 4 and I miss their little faces, sleeping in my arms!! Crazy!!

What a lovely post! My granddaughter is 13 months and is always bf or rocked to sleep. It's a very precious time and my daughter is in no hurry for it to stop.

Completely agree, both mine were held / rocked / cuddled / fed to sleep. They grew out of it in their own time. It was great and like a PP I quite miss it!

elvislives2012 · 21/12/2014 21:20

Just rocked my DD2 5months old to sleep. Rarely did it with her older sister but I think this time I'm aware that this stage goes so quickly and I want to relish every minute as I'm not doing it again! Wine

People should do what works for them. I could never have rocked my dd to sleep everyday for that long but think if you can, it works and you're happy about it then go with it.
There's too much pressure these days to conform to what worked for someone else.

agree i rocked my baby for about 12 months and then she just sort of decided she was too big for it and usually now self settles now in her cot, albeit with a bit of grumbling first! i tried self settling techniques early on and caused me and her so much upset so i followed my instinct and kept rocking her.
