anyone else up with their baby due to teething? pls help!!

After being up since 5 am ish with my early waking DS (another thread), a very stressful day full of crying and sick after dinner, he is still wide awake crying I presume due to his teeth. He has had swollen gums for weeks and still no teeth at 9 months! Have given calpol, teething granules and bonjela and my patience is running out! Any suggestions? He won't settle no matter what I do!

Does he have any other symptoms? Cough, pulling/pointing to his ears, temperature etc... Just in case it is not just teething.

Dc3 (11 months) is teething atm. DH gave him ibuprofen before bed which seems to be working better than the paracetamol he had last night.

One thing I did with dc1&2 was to make up a strong peppermint and chamomile tea and soak muslin strips in it, then squeeze out still leaving some tea in them and either chill in the fridge or freeze in a bag for them to chomp on.

Ooh and ice lollies, which also keeps their fluids up if they are refusing to drink bottles/cups of fluids.

Me 6 months. No teeth. Up every 2 hours like a newborn. She's on the boob right now. So.tired.
Also older DD who keeps coming into our bed.

Thanks Another, will try ibuprofen in the morning if still the same. He feels warm but I think it's because he has got himself worked up. I just led him on my chest and he stopped crying but then started getting up on all fours and patting me, he seems wide awake now. No idea what to do with him! I have put him back in his cot but I can hear him patting the sides and moaning already.

Thanks for ice lolly tip. he only drank 4 oz of his bedtime bottle when he normally has 8! I'm pretty sure it's teeth. I know it's horrible for them but in less than 5 hours time I have been up 24 hours and I'm shattered! Grrrr!

Did your night get any better Nuny? Mine was awful, he would settle for an hour then up again and then wide awake at 5.30 am. He was violently sick after his lunch today - does anyone know if teething causes vomiting? He did it after his dinner last night too and am now worrying he may have a bug as well as sore gums. He gagged on his food a few times which he rarely does anymore, is this due to teething too? So many questions! I am actually nervous about another hellish night tonight.

Ibuprofen is definitely better! We now have 8 teeth with 2 more that have been desperately trying to come up for weeks now. I blame all my DDs issues on teething!!

Have you tried Ashton and Parsons powders or anbesol liquid (not gel)? Both work well for us.

Also you can intersperse calpol and ibuprofen as the 2 can be used together which can be helpful.

Mine went through an episode of gagging maybe it is teeth related?!

We were honestly up most of the night from 10pm last night with blood curdling screams despite all of the above so doesn't always do the trick

Hi Natale. No last night was hell. She has been doing night time poos too and this one was an 'up the back' outfit change one... Waking up every 2 hours i'm really struggling today. Still no sign of teeth. My first daughter had 2 by this age and they just seemed to appear without so much as a squeak from her. Just goes to show how different bubbas can be! I hope you find some help here. I will be following for advice too!

I am getting so fed up with it now, still no teeth but massively swollen top and bottom gums. We were at the end of our tether last night after 3 hours of crying and ended up driving him around in the car to get him to sleep! Hope you had better nights?

Hi Natale! Well i can report, after about an hours sleep last night, resulting in me throwing a massive 5am screaming fit and running out to the street to hyperventilate while DH took over (please don't judge. I think at that point i would have been willing to put myself in a straight jacket) we have a tooth! A tooth! Hooray! Now let's hope that we're past the worst of it. I know i'm feeling quite traumatised, especially since the whole charade woke DD1 (3) who so lovingly gave up her bunny so that mummy would stop crying So off to boots today i stocked up of that teething powder, calpol, nurofen and formula...just in case i give in and surrender to sleep. It's absolute torture..my poor babies. Anyway tomorrow is another day. I'm here for support if anyone's feeling the same.

Hi Nuny - so pleased your DD's tooth popped through! Sounds like a tough night though - no judgement here - I did a similar thing the night before last at around 2 am when I passed DS to my DP and told him that I just couldn't bear him screaming in my ear for a moment longer and that I needed 10 minutes to myself!

Another bad night here last night and so far only 30 min nap today. He is really overtired. His gums are so swollen I just can't understand how the teeth haven't pushed through yet.

And sorry Limes I forgot to say I have tried granules and Anbesol - the Anbesol did seem to help for a short time whereas the granules didn't seem to have any effect on DS, which is strange as lots of people I have spoke to have recommended them.

Sadly no improvements here, worse in fact!!

I just don't understand why teeth cause so much more of a problem at night time than during the day?? Surely it's more than just distraction?
It's my birthday today and I can't get her down, just praying that when I do she is kind to me and let's me sleep!

Does anyone know if there's a point when you shouldn't keep giving Ibuprofen?! Says not for more than 3 days on bottle but we have been giving it most days recently!!

Is it a big one? I had my birthday last week. Hope you're day got better.

I'm not sure about how long you are allowed to give ibuprofen. I have been giving mainly nurofen as i heard it's best for the swelling.

To be honest I haven't noticed much difference with the powder either.

As for night time pain seeming worse than day, i have wondered this too. As far as i know there is no medical explanation. I think perhaps its that during the day there is more going on to distract them from the pain than at night time. I know when i have had teeth pain (wisdom teeth etc) it always seems much worse at night, but i often think that's also because i've had a big day, using my teeth etc, and at night when you wind down all of this seems to accumulate and come back with a vengeance.

Anyway, last night was slightly better as we went to bed earlier, she woke at 2am, 4am, poo at 4.30 ... Nappy change etc which meant she wasn't back to sleep until 5, then feed at 6.20...and then slept until 8!!
So that's what we call a good night here hehe!

Hoping you all see some teeth soon (and then no more for a long long time!) bloody teeth.
