What age did your child sleep 11pm -6am?

Just a quick survey for interest's sake. Any of you who have seen my other posts on sleep will have guessed that things are much better now for me even to be imagining a sleep from 11-6! But I admit I'm secretly hoping that not all mumsnetters have angels who slept 11-6 from 8 weeks old...

Both mine slept 8 - 8 from 8 weeks - sorry! Only reason I remember is it was when they had their first lot of jabs and i put it down to being sleepy after those - but it carried on after that. I've had my fair share of sleepless nights since then though, just in case you thought I sounded a bit cocky - which I didn't mean to! In fact, normally when people ask me I lie and say they slept through later because I feel so guilty!

smokey · 14/04/2004 20:30

My ds was nearly 8 YEARS old before he would sleep through every night... It's bliss now!

Flip · 14/04/2004 20:30

7.30 - 6.30 from being about seven weeks old. Sorry!

And ds1 will do twelve hours now from whatever time you put him to bed. Really handy at New Year!

AussieSim · 14/04/2004 20:30

4.5mths (9:30pm till somewhere between 5-7am), but even after that they will be teething, get colds or whatever else might disturb them from time to time.

SEXGODDESS · 14/04/2004 20:38

dd - 12 hours at 6 weeks

ds - about 9 hours at 9 weeks

Ghosty · 14/04/2004 20:39

Yet again, just as I am planning to start a thread on a subject someone beats me to it ...
Only 1/2 an hour ago, Marsup, I was thinking of starting a thread called "So, when did your baby sleep through?"

My DS slept from 11pm to 5am at 10 weeks ... then 11pm till 7am at 12 weeks and then 7pm till 7am at 16 weeks. Not without a fight though ... The first 10 weeks he never slept at all ...

DD (10 weeks old) goes 11pm till 4ish .. I think she could go longer as she has a weeny (5 minute) feed at that time and then is not hungry at 7am ... I am not sure how to encourage her to not wake up though ... I used to let DS cry but I don't want to do that this time round ...

I think because DD is breastfed I have to give her the benefit of the doubt at 4am and feed her. DS was bottle fed so I knew that he did not really need milk in the night because he drank so much of it in the daytime.

How old is your baby Marsup?

miranda2 · 14/04/2004 20:46

5 months.

rolymoly · 14/04/2004 20:48

Glad things are going so much better, marsup. Dd1 slept from 11-7ish at 12 weeks (but then things went seriously downhill when she started teething at around 5 months). Dd2, now 18 weeks, is still waking once, and not really showing any signs of being about to sleep through.

Hulababy · 14/04/2004 21:47

DD slept like that from about 8 weeks. Sadly, she stopped doing it again at about 14 weeks, when we went on holiday.

Soulfly · 14/04/2004 21:50

My dd1, slept that long from 6 weeks. She was soo good, i didn't expect that at all. But my ds2 didn't and was still up in the night up until he was 1 or so. I think it depends on the child, some kids sleep better than others.

MADDI · 14/04/2004 21:51

Neither of mine sleep. I am resigned to it!

cuppy · 14/04/2004 21:51

8 wk dd sleeps from 7.30 - 3pm. However... shes then up at 6am, and sometimes misses me so much gets up at 5 too!

kiwisbird · 14/04/2004 21:52

ds at about 18 mths (devil)
dd at 16 weeks!

MADDI · 14/04/2004 21:54

DD mark 2 is six months and only slept through the night once! (opn holiday in Paris oddly enough)

lydialemon · 14/04/2004 22:01

DS1 and 2 - not until 18 mths, apart from odd nights.

DD - 1 week but then stopped at 4 mths , but is now 5 mths and waking only once or twice.

Vee33 · 14/04/2004 22:11

all of my three did it by about 10 weeks. At least one of the older 2 (ages 3 and 5) gets up most nights now though and it's been like this for a while. Serves me right for being smug.

prettycandles · 14/04/2004 22:12

ds from 10 weeks. dd was able to do it from 8 weeks (1-3 nights every week) and I can't remember why she didn't - I know there was a reason. I think it might have been something to do with her being in our room and me responding too quickly to her. Eventually she did two nights in a row, just as we were ready to cc her, so we did, and she slept through very easily and consistently after that.

With ds there was a very consistent link between feeding and sleeping through: if he had 5 full feeds in one day then he would sleep through. He could manage one 4-feed day and still sleep through, but if that was followed by another 4-feed day then he would wake at night. So I quickly learned to wake him and feed him during the day - and this was before I discovered GF!

Zerub · 14/04/2004 22:36

DD slept through for the first time at 8 months, after doing cc. Took a couple of months more to do it regularly.

Ghosty · 14/04/2004 22:38

Just as a matter of interest ...
Is sleeping through early got a direct link to bottle feeding?
So out of those babies who slept through from an early age how many were bottle fed?
I ask because by 10 weeks with DS I knew how much he had had during the day and so I was much more prepared to 'make' him sleep through ...
With DD, as she is breastfed, I am more prepared to sit it out and give her the benefit of the doubt ...

aloha · 14/04/2004 22:41

7 months. Took cc at 8 months to make it normal.

cuppy · 14/04/2004 22:42

I b/f tilll 6 wks - at which point dd up evry few hours. First night i put her on formula she slept 6 hours and now at 8 wks does a straight 8 usually

mum2em · 14/04/2004 22:59

dd is 5 months she slept thru at 8 - 10 weeks on and off but by 12 weeks was back to waking once a night, Goes down at 7 pm wakes anywhere between 2-3 am then up at 6am. I was feeding her during the night, as I am still solely breastfeeding, but the past 10 days have been expressing every morning and giving her a bottle at 5pm then doing normal feed at 6pm before bed. So now I feel more reassurred that she isn't hungry its just habit, so when she wakes in the night I now settle her without feeding. With the idea that I will convince her to sleep thru without waking But I do worry that she hasn't had enough through the day and is hungry, so I guess it is easier when they are bottle fed all day as you know what they have had and I would have more conviction in the middle of the night that shes not hungry. In the past 10 days she has slept thru 3 times am hoping this will improve, we have her 5 month check up today so if weight is all ok I will carry on not feeding her during the night. BTW am not starting solids until 6 months with the vague hope she won't get my excema or her daddies asthma, or at the least wont suffer so badly with it.

mummytojames · 14/04/2004 23:02

i wish mine was sleeping that long at eight weeks it was a week before he hit four months the day day we had started weening him

tatcity · 14/04/2004 23:07

DD1 Breastfed for 4 weeks with occasionaly formula at night, then bottle.

DD2 Mix fed from the start - gave up breast feeding at 3 weeks.

Both slept through at 8 weeks.

Be interesting to see what the others say - I think there seems to be a link although breast fed babies are more likely to be in same room too and I think that delays good sleep patterns (for all concerned!)

littlemissbossy · 14/04/2004 23:27

DS slept 11-6 ish from about 16 weeks. However now 3.5 was still awake, running up and down the landing until 10.45 tonight. Moral of this story (which is true) is that even if they sleep through when only weeks old ... doesn't always last
