Are we creating bad habits? 8 week old DS

DS is 8 weeks old and naturally seems to fall asleep around 8-9pm. Usually he falls asleep while being cuddled (not intentional) and then we take him upstairs when we go to bed. He is usually in a deep enough sleep that he doesn't wake up.

I quite enjoy cuddling him while he sleeps, and I know at this age he should always be in the same room as us anyway. But are we creating bad sleep habits, ie he won't know how to fall asleep alone? We have a Moses basket downstairs, but he doesn't really like it and is unlikely to fall asleep in it if we just put him down while awake.

No. No bad habits, no rods for backs.

Enjoy your little baby and those squishy cuddles Smile

It's just not possible to create bad habits at 8 weeks old - enjoy the cuddles

ilovelamp82 · 20/10/2014 21:02

Don't worry about it yet. He's 8 weeks old. They're not that little and cuddly for long. It's great that he naturally goes to sleep at that time.

My first son went into his moses basket from birth but had quite broken sleep to begin with. My second didn't take to the moses basket and only settled on me till about 6 months.

It'll happen at some point. Enjoy your new baby.

Congratulations

Waaaaaaaay too young to be worrying about that sort of thing, enjoy being with your lovely baby safe in the knowledge he is most likely relishing the safety and security of those cuddles. Sounds cheesy, so forgive me, but IMO it's true.

Phew, thanks!

Aww, I want an 8 week old squishy little one to cuddle to sleep! Enjoy your precious time and don't worry about all that bad habit crap.

WowserBooooooooooooser · 20/10/2014 21:35

I did this until DS was about 16 months old! He's still a great sleeper. So no, I wouldn't worry about it Grin

Finola1step · 20/10/2014 21:35

Enjoy those cuddles.

mine is 9weeks and I love cuddles with him, he falls asleep on my chest in my arms during the day but then at night is happy to settle himself in his cot, he hates Moses baskets he's far too nosy to be confined in a basket haha Grin.

Purpleflamingos · 20/10/2014 21:42

No, you're not creating bad habits. Your baby is loved and secure. Don't stress over it.

Fakebook · 20/10/2014 21:46

Noo! Enjoy those little 8 week cuddles, they're the best! You know that when you move him he stays asleep, so he should be fine.

My 9 week old sleeps in my arms most the time, sometimes he goes down after a while, sometimes not. When he does sleep at night it's quite good so I'm happy. I don't expect him to sleep through/go to sleep/self settle any time soon. Sometimes after a night feed he lies on my chest for an hour asleep because it's snuggly and I don't want him to go :)

I've just enjoyed putting my one year old to bed with a cuddle. It was stress-free and cosy. Just the thing after a day at work and nursery, and a cold dark evening. If anyone ever utters 'rod for back' at you, find a rod and smack them with it. Enjoy some snuggles!

From a sleep consultant perspective, NO! Cuddle, cuddle, cuddle. :)
