Amby baby hammocks - do people see them as safe still?

I've got an old Amby baby hammock (2008 vintage) that I was thinking of passing on to a friend but I've seen there was a product recall in the US in 2009 after two babies suffocated in them. The Amby website says this was just because they had been set-up incorrectly, and they are still for sale over here, but I don't want to pass on something that might be dangerous! But OTOH, DS2 slept so much better in it than a moses basket - he had bad reflux and it really helped because he wasn't flat but at a slight angle. Also the jiggling helped him settle. Obviously I'll discuss all this with my friend, but I was just wondering whether people still use them.

Hi Lovage, my DS (5 months) is napping in his as I type this. We've co slept from birth, and have used the Amby for day sleeps. I read everything I could find before purchasing, and felt confident that the two tragedies which occurred were sadly the result of not using the hammock correctly.

When my health visitor saw it she said it wasn't considered a 'safe sleeping' environment, but wasn't able to elaborate on why she considered it unsafe.

My midwife loves the Amby.
