Is it ok to leave dd asleep in car seat?

My 6 wk old dd always falls asleep in car. She then usually stays asleep when we bring her inside at home - sometimes for a couple of hours or more. Since she isn't great at sleeping, I don't like to take her out as doing this will usually wake her. Is it ok to leave her? I've heard rumours that not good for longer periods... but is that just old wife tale??

Our midwife said that it should be no more than 2 hours as it's bad for their backs. I'm sure the occasional snooze in the seat does no harm at all. My 13wk old does too but she does sleep much better in her crib it has to be said. Plus it means I don't have to creep round her all the time!

They do say it's not good for their backs.......but surely snuggled up in a ball on mum's chest/in her arms/in sling isn't particularly good for them either..........

My HV said that some people out there leave baby in a car seat in front of TV for hours and hours - these are the people the advice is aimed at.
How long would you happily have her in the car seat if you were going on a long car journey? 3 hours maybe...? Then it doesn't make any diff if she's in the car for an hour and then in the seat at home for another 2. Personally 2 hours would be my total limit but you'll probably soon find that she won't sleep for that long in one stretch anyway so end of problem! Just take care not to let baby overheat if left in the seat, thats probably more of a real worry than the posture.
