What did your newborn sleep in?!? Advice please

Hi

I'm nearing the end of my pregnancy and starting to panic that we haven't yet bought a Moses basket/crib/co-sleeper.

What did you choose? Did baby like it? Would you recommend it?

We had two Moses baskets (one upstairs one down as I'm lazy and they cost peanuts on eBay + new mattress), an amby nest, a cocoonababy and a cot. Lots of baby parking options!

DD as a newborn mostly slept on me, or on a cushion next to me on the couch during the day. She didn't like to nap away from me, and I wanted to be near her.

At night we had a Moses basket on a stand next to the bed but mostly co-slept. Again, she didn't want to be away from me and I wanted to be near her.

Don't panic, I don't think there's a perfect solution.

We were lent a rocking cradle - he hated it so we had to wedge it so it didn't rock, and then quickly moved to a cot.

Also had a few nights bed sharing and made lots of use of the travel cot in the living room when we were doing split night shifts (a pram would work just as well).

We were surly certain that co-sleeping would not be an option for various reasons so went with a Moses basket.

The basket could be moved around the houSe as I needed it to be which was really helpful. We used to keep it downstairs for her to sleep in in the evenings and we arrived it up when we went to bed.

She slept very well in it until 5 months when I moved her to the cot.

Fairly is what I meant. We weren't at all surly about it.

I think the answers above give you an indication of how different people and their babies are.

Lots of people told me not to bother with a Moses basket as babies hate them but outs never had an issue even when we had to raise an end with a shoe box due to reflux.

Go with what you fancy but be prepared to be flexible

We borrowed a Moses basket and a crib. She wouldn't sleep. We tried the carrycot of the pram. She wouldn't sleep.

Co-sleeping saved our sanity but it took us 3 months to work that out! DC2 due a week today. We are planning to co-sleep.

I have a 3 week old and we have a Moses basket next to the bed upstairs and a wooden swinging crib in the living room downstairs. She sleeps well in the crib through the day, spends the first half of the night in the Moses basket but once she wakes in the night for a feed (around 3am) I then co-sleep with her until the morning.

Moses basket for us which lasted till 4 months. In all honesty there's no reason why you can't just get the big cot for night-time and let your baby sleep in the carrycot or in a bouncy chair in the same room you're in. The Mosesbasket did look lovely though and we have some really gorgeous photos. I'm glad we got it now :)

ly 5 days but his nibbs decided that he wasn't going to sleep in it. Moved onto a rocking crib, again he vetoed that!! He ended up co sleeping in between my husband and I andwas very settled. we now have a 3 sided cot and he sleeps beside me. More often than not he ends up in the middle of the bed and I end up, diagonal in the cot

He is 7 months now. Still regularly waking through the night

Hoping to move him to his own bedroon in next 3 months

My other three slept in a Moses basket in a stand downstairs during the day and at night I put the Moses basket into the cotbed in our room. It stopped me worrying that the other DCs or I would accidentally knock the basket off the stand in the night.

In a moses basket, useful but not necessary, ds2 grew out of it very quickly. Now (4 months old) on a cot mattress next to my mattress (on the floor).

We tried a crib first. She hated it, never slept in it. Moses basket ever since. She is now 6 months and getting too big so will need to lose the basket and make the transition to cot...NOT looking forward to that, lol.

After a week of trying to get our son to sleep in his crib, not being successful, cosleeping every night and being totally paranoid about lying on the baby etc my friend suggested to take the side of the crib off and move it next to our bed. So we did, we took one of its sides off and tied it to my side of the bed. Absolutely brilliant so good for breasfeeding and I do believe our baby is so calm (he never really has cried during the night since the new arrangement) because he knows he is near me.
At 4 months we had to put the side back on as our son was too heavy for the crib to not have a side on. Since then we all share our bed and the crib serves as a bed rail, making sure the baby doesn't fall out. My son is 6 months now, he still feeds at night so I don't think we will stop co-sleeping any time soon.

Amby Hammock Nest, with both babies. Both absolutely lived it from 3 weeks on, DD1 slept through from 8 weeks, DD2 from 11 weeks. Thoroughly, totally and utterly recommend it

Our 4 week old sleeps in a variety of places: either the Moses basket or his pram during the day (sometimes on us instead ) and in a cosleeper crib (BabyBay) we borrowed from a friend at night. Cannot recommend the cosleeper
enough - think if I had to get out of bed each time he wants to feed at night I would have gone mad by now. Think you can hire the bednest one from NCT?

Cot bed with DD. A cot this time as I found out old drop side cots are considered unsafe so DD stay in the old cot bed and I got a normal cot for number 2.

Don't see the need for Moses baskets as we can fit a cot bed (at the foot of our double) in our room.

When baby is down stairs we use the carry cot
