Is mine the only 9 mo who just stands up shouting?

I can't see any possible way to encourage self settling. He just stands up holding the cot shouting. Ok I've made my bed by feeding him to sleep but I've tried transferring when drowsy, patting shushing. He just keeps trying to stand up so he can shout or babble or cry at me and dh.

We live in a very small studio flat and we are in sight no real way not to be.

Please help!!! :)

Hi Super, I am absolutely no expert (currently have a thread on here myself!) but wanted to bump for you as it sounds like such a tricky situation.

Is there a quiet / dark area you could rock him to sleep before transferring to cot? Would something like this help?

Well my DD still 'shouts' herself to sleep, has done since we started putting her down awake at 5.5 mo. Some days it'll be a more gentle babble, some days it'll be a full on 'shout'. I think it's her way of letting off steam - I think it's a rare baby that can just roll over and go to sleep straight away at that age. So if it's just shouting/ babbling could you somehow work out a way to screen the cot from where you are in the flat and leave him to it?

Ours is also 9 months and a standing-up shouter. Haven't really got an answer, but I usually leave her to have a bit of a shout, then try rocking her again (for 'rocking' read 'exhausting vigorous bouncing'). Repeat until eventually she's knackered enough to lie down for long enough to submit to the shhh patting. I think going to sleep just isn't as interesting as scrambling around the cot showing off their new-found mobility. Am hoping that eventually she'll cotton on to how nice a lie-down is instead.

Relieved he's not the only baby to stand up. I always get the impression other posters dc's have sleep issues but do it horizontally.

If his shouting gets worse I may downsize to travel cot and buy the shade. In the meantime I think I'll invest in a screen to divide us - which will turn into a drum no doubt.

He's getting so big and long it's difficult to rock him especially when he's so squirmy and has dagger toe nails.
