Good and bad experiences of 'sleep training'?

DD is six months old and only goes to sleep on the boob. She refuses a bottle and gets very upset when tired if she isn't with mummy. None of these things are a dreadful problem except........ I go back to work in three months which will involve the odd night away when DH will be in charge of baby and 4 year old son. I'm therefore forced into the position of having to so something about this rather than wait it out like I did with DS (who went to sleep on boob or bottle until he grew out of it). HV and others recommending controlled crying. Any experiences or advice to help me decide?? Xx

I'm using the "No Cry Sleep Solution" at the moment. It's not a rigid programme so much as a series of suggestions based on your LOs age, how she feeds and how she usually goes to sleep. It's very gentle and changes happen gradually rather than the rapid results seen with controlled crying etc. The advantage is you don't have to leave your baby crying. I've started some of the early days suggestions with my 2 month old DD and so far am very happy with it but I know it'll be a slow and steady process!

Could you do a 'test drive' before you go back to work, to check if she'll settle for your husband? If you're not there and feeding to sleep isn't an option she may well go to sleep anyway.
It worked for a friend who had the same issue, and she's comfortable feeding to sleep now that she knows she doesn't have to be there every time.

DS1 only goes to sleep with me...unless Im not there. DH usually has to show him every room to prove Im not there Hmm but after that he'll settle.
