Is anyone else's dh shite at putting the kids to bed?

or is it just here?

am dreading tonight, more tantrums, screaming and lack of sleep.

am fed up with being the only one who can keep her temper/patience when dealing with over tired kids.

feel like it all adds to the hassle of night times and getting too much

DH always takes AGES putting DS1 to bed - not because he's rubish at it particularly but he lets him have more chapters of story than I do!

ssd · 07/09/2006 15:50

dh seems to have a very short temper these nights

ah yes, he has a short temper wiht him gets arsey boy gets worse and I think why do I bother trying to watch a tv programme at 7! lol. q DH to m come down and say u sort him out he goes down better for u

althou he's away or was away a lot so Joey's been used to me for bedtime instead of daddy.

Dh is actually better than me at putting them to bed. After I've had them all day it's usually me who has the frayed temper. He does lack in the Health and Safety dept though and can't seem to register what is and what is not a danger to the kids

shatteredmumsrus · 07/09/2006 19:15

That must be true of most men. My dad was looking after ds once and I said dad he has got money in his mouth. Dad said its ok its only a penny!!!!!

tortoiseshell · 07/09/2006 19:21

Dh is quite short tempered, and he takes SO much longer than me. Having said that, it feels a luxury when he does it, so I'm not complaining too much. But he honestly does take over 2 hours to get 2 children to bed, when it takes me half an hour. Don't know why...

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 07/09/2006 19:35

DH usually takes a while putting them to bed - but then he only usually gets to do it 2 times a week so it's a rare luxury for him (and me). Never have any trouble getting them to settle anyhow.

If they go for the manipulative 'goes down better for you' route, you have an immediate open gate to the passive-aggressive haggard visage, draped over the sofa, necking paracetamol, tears in eyes 'i just don't think I can keep standing today darling' and then when they are out of sight you spit out the paracetamol, retrive the glass of wine from behind the sofa and carry on reading the paper...

oh, just me then

shattered & ab... when I hear DH coming home from work i turn off Nick Jr, hide my Grazia and nail polish, take out DS's ELC blocks and start folding the laundry furiously...

DH swears blind dd refuses to settle for him but he plays with her, making her laugh right up to the minute he trys to put her down then wonders why she cries!
Then muggins here has to fix it!!!!
