Co-sleeping with an older baby - ie a mobile one

Just wondered what other people do. Currently co-sleeping with DS2 - who is near to being able to sit himself up/crawl, etc) and wondered what other co-sleepers do wrt stopping them falling off the bed.

Do have a cot in our room which he sleeps in for the beginning of the night...sometimes - he doesn't seem to like it much.

My ds 13 months fell out of bed a few nights ago, havign started off in his cot and woken up at 2am. I got him in the spare (double) bed with me. Had pillows on the floor on his side in case of him falling out, which he did at about 4 am, adn started to cry. I cuddled him back off to sleep quite easily..... but felt HORRIBLY guilty in the morning, when I saw the bruise on his face from hitting the side of the bed on his way down. My feeling now is that he should stay in his cot unless he's poorly, when he tends not to move around so much and needs the comfort more. I did wonder about getting a bed guard thing, but couldn't find one that was suitable for the type of bed it is. Sorry not much help!

DS co - sleeps occaisionally, only when upset or poorly thoug. I try and put DS between the two of us now tbh. Not ideal with heat etc. Couldn't re arrange bed against wall etc? I was quite firm with DS being in the cot from about 3/4 months though tbh - he wasn't too keen either. Mixture of perseverance, back tapping and dummy was what worked for us back then. Still can't believe time has flown by so quickly with DS2, hunker.

If DD wakes up before we go to bed she always sits up and cries as if ?in waiting? for us and this gives enough time to get upstairs and see to her. At 15mths, we haven?t had any rolling off the bed instances yet?

I know some co-sleepers get rid of the bedstead and just have a mattress on the floor. Is this an option? We would have done this but have nowhere to store the frame.

Normally DD sleeps in the middle but there is a bed guard for when she is on my side. Eventually we?ll wean her into a toddler bed at the side of ours and then at some point into her own room but we?re no hurry and neither is she.

we got a babydan universal bedguard and a bigger bed. dd is now sixteen months. before that i got really good at keeping her tucked up next to me eventhough she was very mobile. now she gets up and 'wanders' a bit around the bed so the bedguard is a necessity.

I co-slept recently with my 15 month old to get her over a clingy patch, I re-arranged the furniture to have the bed against the wall and slept diagonally accross the bed to keep her in the top corner where she couldn't come to harm.
