From what age did you stop rocking your little one to sleep?

My baby boy is nearly 4 months old and has to be rocked to sleep when not in pram or bouncy chair. I know he's still very little but I want to learn to teach him to sleep on his own at some point. Just struggling to pinpoint when it might be age appropriate or effective to try letting him settle on his own. Anyone with words of wisdom?

None, I'm afraid, but just about to start with or six-month-old so I'd be interested to hear any advice!
The No-Cry Sleep Solution book has some tips on what to do.

6 months or so? I found that dd would not settle with rocking so I tried putting her down every now and then and sitting next to her. She got it quickly. She went back to needing rocking every now and then but always went back to lying down herself

Although now at 2.5 years old she likes to use me as a mattress at bedtime Hmm although dies get into her bed eventually!

Same as above poster, I was rocking away or feeding to sleep up to maybe 5 months??? Now 6.5 months.
One day she just felt like she didn't want me to do it, like she was too big and not comfy anymore that way. As mentioned above now and again she has a little rock to sleep but usually she gets it, sometimes drifts off in 5 mins sometimes has been known to take an hour at bedtime but can do it apart from some days here and there. Maybe just wait til you know they sleepy and do a tiny nap routine, I just lay her on my bed while I get room ready, darken it etc and then put her in gro bag whilst singing to her and then a quick cuddle and put her down and wait!
Good luck!

At about 3 months he started to self settle (after I introduced a dummy for sleep time), then he hit the 4 month sleep regression and needs rocking again.

ON and off until they were about 1.

Rocking stopped probably about six months but he is still cuddled/patted to sleep probably 50% of the time now at 14months.

Wow. Ours is 10 months and is still cuddled/rocked to sleep.

NutellaLawson · 16/06/2014 20:57

About 10 months, I think. It's hard to remember, even though he is only two now.

Wow, so I could be flexing my arm muscles for some time...good for the bingo wings!
