4 month old - still waking in night but not hungry

DS is 4 months old and has never slept through the night - not exactly a total surprise but when he does wake, he sucks on the boob for literally a few seconds and is asleep again. I then try to move him back to his cot but he wakes up. So, like the weak human i am, he comes back into bed with

He goes to bed at 7pm and then usually wakes at approx 1am and then every two hours after that.

Please help!

Have you tried patting him back to sleep?
My ds was like this at about 14 weeks, just before he started sleeping through. I used to get up as soon as I hear him stirr and then just gently pat his back till his sleeps again. It did take about a week though, you should ask your partner to do it if you want to avoid putting him on your breast. He won't wake if there is no reward.

Good Luck

That makes a lot of sense - my first instinct is to shove my boob in his mouth and so he is obviosuly going to connect this with waking in the night. Will give it a try. Thanks again.

I'm going to try this too as mine is exactly the same... just booby boys I guess! Patting away starts tonight...

So - Sophiev73 - how did it go?
