Does EVERY baby go through 4 month sleep regression?

Did yours? How long did it last?

I have a 13 week old who sleeps rather nicely and am dreading this all being turned upside down at four months....

Well mine didn't, but that was because he was a horrific sleeper anyway Grin I do know someone who didn't get the 4 month one, but then got hit with the 8/9 month one. They were devastated...lasted about a month I think?

Thurlow · 23/05/2014 21:58

No. It's easy to see only the worst online, because no one needs to come on and rant or de-stress if things are going well

2.5 years in and so far no sleep regressions or problems at all, not even for teething.

Some babies are just sleepers, you may be lucky to have one.

HappyAsASandboy · 23/05/2014 22:03

My DTs started to sleep better from 4 months :)

It was only at 4 months they started to reliably go to sleep at 7.30 and sleeeeeep until 12.30 when they woke for their first feed of the night.

I loved the 4 month bit because I suddenly got my evening back which I then generally spent sleeping.

Try not to worry about these things. Every baby is different and you really can't predict when/what will happen :)

No I don't think so, my ds started sleeping through at 12 weeks and nothing disrupted that at all. However dd slept well until 12 week jabs, then it all went pear shaped and at 8 mths it remains so!

ThursdayLast · 24/05/2014 10:35

Nope. DS slept right through all sleep regressions.
Thank f**k

Fruityflapjack · 24/05/2014 10:42

No regression here. My DD started to sleep through at 10 weeks. By 12 was nearly every night.

She is now 14 months. We only have bad nights if she's ill or badly teething. Then she just wants us so is happy snuggling up with us in bed.

It's not something that is talked about (babies that sleep) as:
A) I think people are worried about jinxing it or something
B) If you mention it to friends, it's tantamount to being skinny and going on about how fat you are Smile

Don't worry, it probably won't happen.

dodi1978 · 24/05/2014 12:04

Don't worry - we did have couple of more night wake ups at 4 months, but retrospectively I think these were due more to DS having his first major cold rather than anything else.
No regression whatsoever at 9 months, despite starting nursery and being ill.

TheScience · 24/05/2014 12:21

DS1 did, but on the flipside he didn't clusterfeed as a newborn or get separation anxiety at 9-12 months. I don't think there's anything really that you can guarantee all babies will experience at exactly the same time, it's all just common patterns of behaviour.

luckiestgirlintheworld · 24/05/2014 12:35

Thanks guys- some sensible advice! I'll just have to wait and see.

I am feeling exactly the same!!! Everytime someone asks about her sleep I always touch wood!

RubyGoat · 24/05/2014 15:56

No. DD was put in cot bed in her own room at 4 months exactly, as she no longer fit in the co-sleeper bedside crib (literally) & was starting to sit herself up so it was no longer safe. That was the first night she slept right through & we were thrilled, she's mostly slept through ever since, teething & illness excepting.

Getting her to sleep in the first place, that's another matter. But no, I'm not convinced that all babies have a sleep regression at set ages.

TheHoundsBitch · 24/05/2014 16:10

Nope. I'd never heard of it until I came on here!

neversleepagain · 24/05/2014 22:11

Nope, we have had no sleep regressions here. Our twins slept through at 11 & 14 weeks so by 4 months we were getting 8 glorious hours of unbroken sleep.

Liveinthepresent · 24/05/2014 23:03

Nope
DC1 - never knew it existed and didn't experience any regressions
DC2 - hell yeah! thought I had been blessed with 2 sleepers.. that was a false sense of security.

K1spoony · 25/05/2014 03:43

I'm going through it now, my girl slept slept 12 hours from 10 weeks till 17 weeks , now she's up multiple times a night!! Tearing my hair out. Health visitor told me 90% of babies go through some form of regression at this age, she's 19 weeks, hope it passes soon!!

Both mine have. Dd is 2 and her sleep still isn't as good as it was between 3 and 4 months.
Ds is 4.5months and in the last few weeks has gone from sleeping 7-7 (or 7-5-7) to sleeping 11-1-3-5. Really hoping it's only temporary this time.
