Calling geneticists or anyone, please confirm for my dh that men DO NOT NEED sleep more than women...

Dd woke at 5am. Cue dh wailing "I can't take this, I'm so tired!" and me getting up and getting on with it. At 7.40 I went back to bed and he got up. At 9.30 I was woken by both children in the room whinging at which point I wondered why dh wasn't still dealing with them and was trying to sleep next to me. "YOU DON'T FKING NEED YOUR SLEEP ANY MORE THAN I DO, IN FACT YOU SHOULD NEED IT LESS AS YOU'RE 10 YEARS YOUNGER THAN ME SO IF YOU'RE KNACKERED PERHAPS YOU'D CONSIDER TURNING THE PLAYSTATION OFF BEFORE MIDNIGHT?" I snarled, not unreasonably, in my view.

At which he uttered the immortal line "well, maybe there IS something genetic that means I need more sleep, after all, I'm a man and stronger than you." wtfkingf? I did point out that he doesn't work as a woodcutter or anything but at a desk job but hey.

So, confirm I'm right and he's wrong, if you please. This is his only weak point, he is otherwise my perfect man but hey, I don't see that he should get away with this one

I find being Too Tired For Sex works wonders in this situation.

WideWebWitch · 27/08/2006 11:22

ha ha, too late for that but maybe later...

I always get the lie-in.

bananaloaf · 27/08/2006 11:24

i think it is because they read from a book of fairy man tales. this includes that a mancold is as bad a flu which renders them utterly incapable of lifing their head from the pillow.

BettySpaghetti · 27/08/2006 11:25

Some people just need less sleep than others (didn't Margaret Thatcher survive on 3 hrs a night or something silly -mind you hardly a good example to give ) -not a male/female thing though.

You sound like us -both need a decent amount of sleep but both get arsey with not enough sleep.

Tell him hes talking out of his bottom

Twiglett · 27/08/2006 11:25

am loving "wtfkingf" btw

he's talking out of his arse .. again I think that's a genetic question .. do men have arses they can talk out of?

trinityrhino · 27/08/2006 11:25

ROFL men are weird aren't they

ScummyMummy · 27/08/2006 11:25

'wtfkingf' is the best abbreviation I have ever seen.

Oh, and clearly you are right.

WideWebWitch · 27/08/2006 11:29

I thank you all, I will show his this thread once Tamum has popped along to confirm that, you know, he doesn't genetically NEED more sleep because he's a man

twiglett sometimes i prefer the answer out of my dh arse as it makes much more sense!

tamum · 27/08/2006 11:50

Boo

Yes, I can confirm that although some people definitely need less sleep than others there is nothing remotely sex linked about it.

Love from tamum PhD xxx

WideWebWitch · 27/08/2006 12:06

Thanks Tamum!

I 99.9% of the time get the lay-in (such as they are with small children)

fennel · 27/08/2006 12:21

My DM thinks that it somehow hurt men more to be ill, that they suffered more with it. And therefore need lots of female sympathy while ill women just Get On With It.

but then DM also thinks women don't have sexual feelings before they are married.
