Need reassurance re 13 week old with cough and cold

My 13 week old dd has had a cold she caught from me for over a week now. The past few nights she's also been coughing at night, I think when the mucous builds up in her throat. She just woke up for a breastfeed and was choking a lot while feeding. It was really horrible and scary. She's fallen asleep again now but I don't want to put her back in her travel cot (we are away from home) so she's lying on top of me. I'm exhausted but don't want to / can't sleep. Should I just keep her here and ride it out or put her back in her cot? Surely if she starts coughing and choking I'll hear her. Wish id taken her to the gp but she doesnt have a temperature and didn't really think there was anything they could do...
We have olbas oil and a plug in at home and are back home tomorrow. Thanks in advance from a probably over paranoid first time mum

She will probably be better on you as her head is raised, unless you can raise the head end of her cot? We used to do this for asthmatic dd. Our gp used to give us otrivine child to keep her nose clear, it worked like magic but they have changed it to 'children over 6' now. Might be worth seeing if your gp will give you something similar? The other remedies didn't work. I hope she recovers soon.

Thanks, I feel better when she's on me, so will keep her there. Will see if the gp can give me anything on Monday

I think she might be too little for olbas oil, but let her sleep on you and maybe put a damp towel or muslin on radiator for moisture. I'd get the snot sucker from boots so you can clear her nose before feeds. Poor you! The first illness is scary, although sounds like she's doing ok. I'm currently feeding DS who at 16 months is on cold no. 374 and now clears his nose by wiping bogies on my boobs. You've got so much to look forward to Smile

Saline spray up the nose is also good. My dd2 - 10 weeks today - also has a cough & cold and sounds similar to yours. The spray is great - they won't like you doing it but it does help to clear the nose!

GP suggested I use saline drops rather than spray as you can get more solution up there.

You can get Vicks type stuff for babies too.

My DD was the same - got a cold and cough at 6 weeks old and it lasted the whole winter. I found some good natural solutions though.
Here's my blog on it - mydaughterwontsleep.com/2014/01/22/are-night-time-coughs-keeping-your-awake/

good luck!
