Hey im a single mum living at home and the past few weeks im finding it really hard to get my little boy to go to sleep in the day. He either just catnaps or doesnt go at all. He has his bottle and then falls asleep in my arms so i put him down in his cot and 5 minutes later hes wide awake crying. I dont really know what to do to encourage him to have a sleep in the day??

How old is your baby? I found that mine always woke up the minute I put them down when they were very tiny, so rather than get frustrated I would go out for a walk with them in the sling and then the pram (when they were a little older) and gradually progressed on to being able to put them in the cot for a nap when they were about 4 or 5 months old.

How old is ds? I found my ds hard to get to sleep in the day. I tried to get into a routine and put him for a nap at the same time if possible so he began to realise now was nap time. I too took him out in the pram to sleep but found it pretty hit and miss.

I tried all the tricks in the book and spent ages doing the rocking, pick up put down method in a dark room etc. it took weeks but I finally cracked it so maybe just preserve. I also found as soon as I put his Moses basket downstairs in the lounge he would go to sleep really well so I guess he just wanted to be with me. He would go down awake and coo for a but until falling asleep. Maybe you should try putting him asleep awake rather than asleep as he may be waking up and crying because he realises you are no longer there. Easier said than done I know.

Hes 10 weeks old today!! Thankyou for the advice will take it all on and try different things. He falls asleep in the car and as soon as i stop the car hes awake and the same in the pram. I will try putting him down awake too see if he will go off. I also put him in his bouncer and his play gym but after 10 mins hes had enough and wants me to pick him up. Obv just very demanding at this age and wants his mummy all the time.

Oh dear, you poor thing, you must be exhausted! One thing which helped us was white noise. We had this little speaker next to his cot (see link) and bought a cheap white noise app on the iPod. We used to have it really loud (like a hoover) so much so I was worried it would affect his hearing (it didn't!) Learnt about it on an NCT course. I think the younger the better. Also black out blinds helped us when he was a little older. Hope things improve. Thanks
