Cosleeping in bedside cot

Hello all. I'm expecting my first baby and exploring sleeping arrangements. I'm hoping to breastfeed. Ideally I'd love for baby to sleep by the side of my bed in a 3 sided bedside cot.

You can buy ones specifically for this. The NCT bedside crib and the babybay both look great but are SO expensive even second hand!

Has anyone used an ordinary cot with one side taken off? How do you prevent baby rolling out and into your bed when you're not there?

Also, any general co sleeping hints and tips? I've not found many useful websites.

What other options are there for keeping baby close at night?

We used a bednest with ds (which he barely slept in...) but sold it on when the idea of more children was less than welcome! There were a couple of things about it I didn't like anyway, so discounted it for this one, due in a few weeks. Looked into other options and really liked snuzpod and troll bedside crib - but ultimately went for cheap kiddicare compact cot and will use it three sided. The troll holds its value for selling on though, and may yet end up buying that...

SOPHIEPICKLE - we managed to hire a Bednest for £100 including delivery and collection direct from them. I'm sure if you google you'll be able to find the link. The Bednest itself was in absolutely perfect condition - could definitely have passed as brand new. It came with brand new sides and a brand new NCT mattress. They were doing a money back guarantee that if your LO didn't like it, they'd give you a no quibble full refund. I can vouch for this as we had to return ours. We only rented it in desperation after 4 weeks of unplanned co-sleeping by which point DD had no intention of being moved even a few inches away! I visited this thread to get tips on how to move her out - it's been 5 months and we want our bed back :-) Good luck with the new arrival

We've ended up opting for the bednest. Space vs peace of mind.
We bought rather than rent as this is just our first and will hopefully use it for another baby!

Anyway, best thing is we found a 20% off code! It was only supposed to work until 24th January but it worked last night.

It's SHOW20 and we used it on the bednest website. Well chuffed :)
