13mo stuck in daft nap routine...should i try to change this?

DS has 2 naps per day, one in the morning and one in the afternoon.

Recently, both naps have been getting later and later (and they're both now pretty short) so we are now in the daft situation where he has a 40 minute nap from 1030/1100 ish intil 1115/1145, and then half an hour around 1530-1600.

And then....he pisses around for ages at bedtime and will not go to sleep!

He has never been a great napper (oh how I have longed for a 2-hours-after-lunch type baby!) but this is the pits. and the bedtime battles are doing my head in.

Should I try to ditch the morning nap and keep him up till after lunch, no matter how tired and grumpy he is? And hope that he has a nice long nap after lunch? (the few times we have done this, he has still just had a 45 minute nap from 1230-1315 for example, and is then an overtired mess by bedtime...)

Please help!

I'd consolidate the two into one post-lunch nap. I hear you on the overtired mess front, but stick with it. Often takes about a week to get into the swing of new nap times, including fitting the right meals around them. Just make a decision and stick with it. He'll have no choice but to abide.

Maybe try an early lunch (11am) and an 11.30am nap. Lots of children drop down to 1 nap at this age - it will probably take a few days to get into a new routine though.
