I know this has probably been done, but is 11mo too young to drop to one nap? Unsure if it is just the disruption of Christmas that has fecked up DD's naps....

She has been in a good routine of 1.5 hrs or so around 9.30, then another 1.5 hrs or so at 12.30, but sometimes later if lunch drags out. Over Christmas there was obviously a lot going on, and I was surprised how well she managed on just a good morning nap and then usually a catnap in the car in the late afternoon, but if she missed the catnap she coped ok. She slept really well at night, also.

Now we're back home, and she had two naps yesterday, then was wide awake between 4 and 5.30am! Not upset, just awake. Eventually drifted back off and we all woke at 8.30 Blush. She was upset and rubbing eyes though at 10.30 this morning so I just put her down, but am going to wake her shortly. This is so confusing! Any helpful thoughts? I really hope she'll revert to 2 naps for all the obvious reasons!

Apologies for lack of 'am's and 'pm's in the post - hopefully you all get what I mean!

It may just be the upheaval and excitement of Christmas, in which case she'll settle back into her old routine soon enough.

However my dd dropped to one nap at 11 1/2 months, and had been heading that way for a few weeks before. You're right though, it's earlier than average.

Basically, as her awake times were getting longer, her naps were getting later and later. We found if we let her have her full 60-90 mins in the morning we were finding that she resisted the second nap. So we started to reduce the first nap gradually, until eventually she only had 20-30 mins. She would then still take a nap of 90 mins in the afternoon.

Gradually the first nap got later and later (11ish) and so, one day, we kept her up, gave her an early lunch at 11:30am and then put her to bed for 12:30pm It's worked so far. (she's 14 month old now)

Both mine were around 12 months old when they got into the habit of one nap a day after an early lunch - at one point ds was eating lunch around 11 am but then it gradually got later. Worked well to see them through to 6.15/6.30 bedtime.
