What do you do when 19mo wakes up at 4am and won't go back to sleep?

DS had a sickness bug that lasted almost a week and since then he has started waking up earlier than usual in the morning anytime between 4 and 6.30am. He has two teeth coming through but nothing else has changed. I don't know what to do with him at that time of the morning. This morning it was 4am. I tried everything to get him back to sleep. I gave him paracetamol, a drink of water, an extra blanket, tried him in beside me, played his light up mobile, lay on his floor and stroked his face but he would not go back to sleep and kept getting upset with my efforts. He eventually fell back asleep around 7.10am (just when I needed to get up!!) ontop of the pillows I was lying on on his floor. What do you do in the early hours if your LO wakes early?

Thank you for replying Waiting. The mobile night light is useful and has on some occasions worked. This morning was slightly better at 5.50am, still not socially acceptable though.

He slept until 7.55am this morning!!!!! He stirred at 6.30 and went straight back to sleep. Suppose with it being CHristmas there was no noise outside to distract him when he went into a lighter sleep before waking.

We have wake ups anywhere between 4 & 5.30 (very rarely any later) with our 12 month old. It's very hard work (have 4 year old too so naps are out of the question) bt nothing we have tried has made any difference. We just go to bed early & take it in turns to get up with her!

If it's any consolation dd1 was the same & it passed eventually. I actually can't remember when!
