Do babies ever bounce back from waking in the night due to illness?

DD is 7 months and is having terrible sleep since she got a bad cold about a week ago. She's sleeping from 8pm til about 3.30am and then is pretty much only going back to sleep when held. Any time you put her back in the crib she absolutely wails, no matter how asleep she seemed to be in your arms a moment before.

She was an all night sleeper from 4 weeks until about a fortnight ago so I guess this is my time coming for all that sleep. Wink

DP reckons she'll go back but I'm not so confident...

My 5 month old has been restless after a cold too. It took about 2 weeks to go back to sleeping through.
Do you give a dream feed? I found that by increasing the oz in that helped her sleep better.
Have you tried a hot water bottle to heat the cot up before placing her down? My LO sometimes gets a fright if her sheets are cold and it makes her wide awake!!!

Nope.

She's going to wake at 3.30am forever Wink

Of course she will. At some point Grin

Yes! But the up and downs with illness go on for years!

weeblueberry · 11/12/2013 09:56

Thanks guys. I mean I know it's not forever Wink but considering she's got a lot going on (cold, big developmental jump, potential separation anxiety issues that come with 6-7 months) I'm just so worried that's her a bad sleeper now.

Haven't tried a dream feed but don't think hunger is an issue. She's taking a 7oz feed at 8 and that seems to be seeing her through. She's not even hungry when she wakes up really. Almost as though she's surprised to see the bottle in the morning!

Yes she'll go back to sleeping through but then they'll be another cold and a tummy bug and another and another....... Wink

I came on here to ask pretty much the same question. My DS is 8 months and just had a tummy bug and the last few nights have been an absolute nightmare. He wakes up when I go to bed at 10.30 and then about every hour after midnight. I'm ragged!

There's more going on too so I'm going to start my own thread anyway, but will be watching yours!

You have my sympathy, and empaty Sad

I'm sorry Havingkittens. It's utterly shit isn't it?

The thing that's keeping me going is the hope that it's temporary. My friends baby recently had a cold and she said her sleeping is much better after a week. :)

See, I'm so sleep deprived I forgot to put the h in empathy! I actually can't write or type anymore.

I hope you're little one gets back to normal soon (and mine too!). Mine is in a constant state of teething too which is definitely not helping either of us. I feel so bad for him, poor love. Started at 5 months and I think 7&8 and maybe even two more are coming now Sad

My LO is one now and it's endless. He had 2 great weeks of sleeping 7-6 then got ear infection, bronchitis and teeth and now it's a nightmare again. No sleep to be had in this house. He's now better and happy again but the sleep remains a disaster :-(((
