dd2 not slept a wink and our 1st row in 5 1/2 yrs of marriage!

So stressed!
dd2, 8months old didn't hardly sleep a wink last night.
She started screaming at 2.30am and basically I've been up with her since then.
Tried everything, pick up put down, rocking her, offered her milk, changed her nappy.
Dozed off a couple of times but wakes up just as I get into bed.
ended up biting dh's head off and having a row, only a little row granted but we never argue and I do mean never!

What am I doing wrong??
Sometimes I could swear that she just doesn't like me!

No temp or infection. She is teething but has been forever it seems.
I don't think she even knew what she wanted.

And yes we never row, feel worse about the row that total lack of sleep.
Dh knows i didn't mean it and it was because I was tired and upset but I'll have it on my mind now all day...might have to cook his fav meal tonight!

she is normally a very grouchy baby but ntohing else I can pinpoint.

no red cheeks, no pulling at ear, no nappy rash...

no constipation, one lovely yukky nappy yesterday.
she's been on solid for couple of months now and loves her food.
offered milk but no water as she usually spits it back at me

well I started the row really as I bit his head off when he was only trying to help.
he does plenty of nice things for me all the time....he's a dream at housework

well she finally dozed off to sleep now but if we have a repeat performance, I said I never would but it'll in the car for a drive....

TBH I tended to give dd a slug of calpol or neurofen (or both if desperate!!)if this happened, in the assumption that something was bothering her and she couldn't tell me if anything was sore.

hey alicemama snap my eight month old was up crying all night too and it kept waking up my toddler . it might be teething, but - like your baby - it seems she has been teething for ever.
what about bringing her in with you?
does baby massage soothe her?
anyway you are doing nothing wrong....
honestly, don't feel bad about the row, it is entirely normal to be cranky due to lack of sleep. you are human, not supermum. could he take a turn if she if the same tonight? or could you plan that he will take her out for an extended time st the weekend so you can catch up?
never ind cooking a meal for him. a simple - "sorry, I was grumpy" is quite enough and he can get a takeaway and then get a really early night.
seriously, thought, beware of setting too high expectations for yourself, and making rules that set you up for failure (like you never row, or you will never take her for a drive in the car.... etc). Human relationships are about loving compromise imho, and it is healthy for your baby to see you not being perfect.

PS I promise yuou that your baby loves you. In fact your baby loves you with a passion that might scare you sometimes. you are the centre of her universe for some many years yet.

actually let us just take a moment to boggle at the fact that you have been married for five and a half years you have two (I think?) children and you have never had a row?!?! (I am not counting a cross word due to sleep deprivation....)
good lord, you should get some sort of certificate.

well dh has gone to work and we're still speaking.
I apologised and so did he, hug and a kiss and he went to work.
dd2 has woke up now but hope to appease her with some brekkie.
dd1 is now grumpy as she woke up during the night due to all the crying.
decided on a morning off nursery and a slobby morning.
my sister is babysitting later so that I can get my nails done...ahhhhh free time!

Blimey alicemama are you a saint!!!My dd 7 months was up all night too screaming.ds ready to rock n roll at 6am just as i dropped off.Sadly i had massive row with dp last night with no resolution.You must be amazing if you never row.I wish I could be as patient- i turn into horrible shouty sleep deprived monster.Off to take dd to drs as I feel its more than teeth as she is screaming if i just brush her ear and wont feed on one side.Have tried calpol and brufen together with little effect.Poor little dd.Hope your little one is better.much sympathy!!

I'm not the saint in the relationship, dh is a very patient man and will accept an apology and give one just as easily. we just work well together thats all
dd2 is still grouchy but I think that might be the lack of sleep but dread putting her down for fear of screaming!
next time your dd is up all night, bring her round here, they can keep other company and we might get some kip!
