Rubbing eyes / face when asleep and waking up!

Argh! I'm sorry if there's already a thread on this but has anyone experienced and overcome eye rubbing when asleep?

Our 5mo does this all night, she goes down fine about 7.30/8 and has a good couple of hours until midnight when the eye / face rubbing starts. It wakes her up everytime.. I've tried leaving her to grumble but it soon turns to the fury, I've resulted in BF back to sleep but it happens every 1hr-1.5hrs through the night means not much sleep.

DH has tried PU/PD over the past couple of weeks but its having no effect, hence the feeding to sleep route. Tried a dummy but she completely refuses and it makes her even more upset.

It's so frustrating. She naps perfectly in the day, but not sleeping at night is really getting me down.

My DD does this, and it drives me mad because she knocks her dummy out and then wakes up.
Is your DD rolling from front to back yet? If not, we've had some success with Sleepy Wings
You can buy them in the UK on Amazon.

summer I think you may have just saved my sanity...

She's just attempting the art of rolling front to back, not quite there yet. So it's worth a try, ill do anything for 1 night Smile

Grin Glad to help! Hope it gets better. I'm definitely finding the lack of/broken sleep to be the toughest thing about having a baby. You're not on your own!

Our DS does the same thing - for the past few nights we've used saline nasal spray and he hasn't been rubbing his eyes. Perhaps it's all related to some sort of allergen and the nasal spray helps by clearing his sinuses? Who knows...but we'll keep going with it as long as it works!

bad you may be onto something there, it's been happening since her first cold - she got another one last week. We've been on saline drops each night before bed and baby Vicks. Will purchase a spray first thing.

Sleepy wings are on order too.

One day I'm sure we'll sleep again. One day.

My dd did this when I used a new bath wash. When I stopped using it the face rubbing stopped. Maybe something like that? Washing powder? New perfume? Etc

Hi, my 6 month old has the same problem. What happened after all with your child, was it any issue with eye itself ? I'm pretty much concerned. He wakes himself like 6 times a night by rubbing his eyes but usually only rubbing the right one... my heart is in pieces to see him like this, he sometimes cries as well and it seems something irritates his eyes but I've taken him to 3 different eye specialists and seems ok (didn't ask for iris dilator tho)
