15 Week old Slamming legs down in moses basket at night

Hi, I have read some of the other threads about babies thrashing their limbs about, but my baby just lifts and slams his legs down so hard in his sleep. I swaddle him tight but he still does it. I am so worried he is going to damage or injure his back or legs, the force of the slamming is scary! Its not wind, not a dirty nappy... I have no idea what it is. Has anyone else experienced this? It keeps me up all night and he is constantly waking himself up.

Don't worry, it'll sound worse then it is, its v unlikely he'll hurt himself. Was he a wriggler before he was born? Personally, I wouldn't try and swaddle too much to prevent it, it sounds like something he just 'does' and trying to be too preventative is more likely to disturb him.

Aww, I had forgotten about this. My DS used to do it in his cot, legs straight up the the ceiling and then BAM!! Don't recall DD doing it though. Anyway, DS is now a strapping 7yo with no ill effects from doing it other than very strong abs!

DD1 did this. I had to put the basket in the cot, as there was a real risk of her tipping it, she was so violent.

I have no idea why she did it, or how old she was when she stopped though. Sorry.

My dd did it as well. It was how we knew she was ready to get up in the morning! I don't think we ever worried about it... She seemed to really enjoy it...

Yes. My DTS did this for weeks. He grew out of it once he could roll over. Then we had ping pong baby for a while - rolling from one side of the cot to other an back -now he sleeps face down and barely moves at all. It's bliss! So calm. I used to wonder how he got any rest at all!

Our 4 month old Ds does this. We refer to him as Shamu as he is a bit like a beached whale when he does it. He seems to use it to let us know when he wants picking up as he doesn't really cry; just thumps instead.

We were talking about this at my NCT class today - it completely normal for them to kick their legs about (particularly up and down), and you shouldn't swaddle them so tightly that they can't, as it can be bad for their hips.

Is it the noise that bothers you or are you worried he'll hurt himself?

Dd2 is 16 weeks and yes has started doing this just this week. I've a suspension its connected to her becoming more mobile :-)

My DD used to do this until she could get on to her side. It was our cue to put her in her cot!!

DD does this, she is 6.5 months. I can hear at night if she wake up and I'm downstairs as she kicks before she even makes a noise, its so hard I hear it over the tv.
