Trying to night wean 10 month old - what to do at 5am?

I've been trying to settle him back to sleep without a night breastfeed and this works quite well until about 5am. He's not ready to get up for the day then as still seems tired, but is probably hungry, or just unable to get back to sleep without a feed. I don't really mind, but don't want to be inconsistent if it's still 'night time'. My ideal would be to wake him up properly between 6 and 7 with a morning feed, not feed him back to a dozy sleep at 5am. What would you do?

Feed him! And snuggle. He's only tiny.

Ok! Maybe I'm being a bit ambitious. It's just I can't really get back to sleep as he just latches on and won't move. It's fine for now but going back to work in a few weeks and don't think I'll manage on a 5am start everyday...

My dd aged 1 still does this. I would say to feed & then try to get him to settle again. Sometimes it works with my dd, other times she won't go back to sleep. I'm starting to think some babies are just like this!

When's his last feed? I'd be trying to squeeze in another feed late at night which would hopefully push his morning wakening later.

It doesn't seem to have anything to do with his last feed I don't think. For example, there have been days when I've fed him at 7pm, and he wakes up at 5am, and days when I've fed him at 3am and he still wakes 2 hours later! So perhaps forgetful is right - it's just what he does!

My eleven month old does this too - it's a killer because I have to get up at six fifteen to get to work. I generally feed and then skip the first breastfeed of the day in favour of solids. If I wasn't so tired, I'd say it helpful in terms of scheduling since he's then hungry enough to et his breakfast.

I have been wondering the same thing with my 11mo. I settle without a feed til 5am (he always wakes in the night, tut). But if he feeds at 5, though technically it is the morning, he goes back to sleep afterwards so actually to him it's a night feed. And therefore I have not night-weaned! But I daren't cut it out in case he starts waking at 5am for the day!

DS woke at 5am for months (now 17mo) and he still does occasionally... What are his naps like? We had to move the morning nap later to get a later waking time. It may also settle now the mornings are getting lighter. There's no noise waking him?

Tends to nap for 90 mins at 9am and the same at 1.30pm. I have to string him out a bit to make it to 9, so don't think I could move later at the moment, but maybe as he gets a bit older...
