He has been sleeping through since he was 8 weeks old (mostly baring the usual sleep regression, growth spurt stuff), he's been in a bed for about 3 months now (he learned to escape the cot) but since the switch bedtime has been getting worse and longer every night. We get home from work/nursery at 6, play and talk for an hour or so, he gets snacks and drinks if he wants them, go upstairs for a bath or shower (he chooses), pjs, stories, read the bedtime book (although he doesn't seem to want this much of the time now) last cuddles and kisses then lights out and "sleep" this is usually about 7:40ish. Sometimes it's a bit of a battle to get this far. Recently we've has 30-60min of up and down stairs to put him back to bed (he cries on the landing), but tonight he didn't sleep until gone 10. We've tried leaving him (he is stubborn) we've tried cuddles, we've tried just putting him back in bed each time with no interaction, everything leads to more crying and screaming and pleading for just about everything he can think of (cuddle, drink, snack, imaginary hurts, take a toy away, get a toy it just goes on and on and on.). He naps for about an hour and a half between 12:30 and 2, I wake him at 2 because that seemed to help for a while. He gets tired and ratty by 4 if he doesn't nap, but still isn't keen on going to sleep at bedtime. Recently nap time has become a battle too unless we are in the car or he is in the buggy. I have no idea what to do next, I can't do this much longer. It is beginning to dictate our whole lives. I miss the little boy who used to just snuggle down into his cot and go to sleep smiling. How did we manage to fuck it up with his bed?
