Is there such a thing as too much sleep for a young baby?

Ok, possibly a 'my diamond shoes are too tight' problem, but DS1 was a terrible sleeper so I don't know if DS2 is normal!

He naps only in the sling, refuses pram or basket in the day, but is in his basket at night. Je is 10 weeks.

Yesterday he was asleep at night 7pm-6am with feeds at 11 and 3.30, he went down quickly after each feed. His naps were 7.30-8.30, 10-1, 2.30-3.30, 4.30-5. This can't be right, surely? He's never awake!

When he is awake he's happy.

Anyone? He's slept even more today, he's woken every 3 hours for his bottle (he's very regular!) then conked out again

Some babies just sleep a lot.

Are you worried about him?

If he's happy when awake and eating, weeing and pooing plenty he's probably fine.

(I think I remember you from the 'sleep nightmares' threads in 2010/11? Am expecting DC2 in March - I SO hope I get a sleeper next time !)

If he's happy, alert when he is awake and putting on weight and dirtying nappies he's fine. If you've gone from a baby who hardly slept to one who sleeps a lot the contrast must seem huge.

Sounds like my DD, enjoy it while it lasts. I got so much done those first few weeks. She is now 7 months old and has a couple of hour long naps a day. On me. I get nothing done any more.

Hello count! Yes, that was me. DS2 is amazing, has self settled from birth . Also bf didn't work this time round so DH does two nights a week. I am not sleep deprived . I hope you get a sleeper too, I really do.

He is alert when awake. He's just never awake! I will try to unclench then if you all think it's ok.

I was very stressed when pg with DS (awful job). I'm much calmer now so hoping that will translate to a lovely slerpy baby :) DS still doesn't really self-settle now at nearly 3, though he does sleep through, thank goodness.

Id like to point out he does wake twice a night and will only nap in the sling. So I don't get to sleep myself, or anything like that!

well ok, not quite as good as some fictional miracle sleepers I've heard about then, but still would be a major improvement from my dd... self settling from birth is amazing!

I know - the first time he did it I'd put him in the bouncy chair while I got in the shower and when I came out he was asleep the idea of DS1 doing that when he was little is hilarious! I was absolutely gobsmacked.

I think it's almost entirely luck. Although I have never fed to sleep as that s what got me into trouble with DS1, I've tickled him awake after each feed. But I suspect that had nothing to do with it and it is just hi personality.

Anyway I'll bugger off and stop being a pain now. Thanks for indulging my anxiety :)
