10 month old wakes hourly and cries every time I leave the room

That's it really. She does it night and day but it's actually most difficult at night. She settles fine in her cot, I put her in relaxed but awake. Sometimes I place a hand on her to stop her standing up. She falls asleep. No matter how quietly I go, she wakes and stands and cries the second I leave the room. At night she sometimes settles herself but still mostly wakes hourly. She slept through, 11 or 12 hours with one settled feed until she was 4 months old. Since then she hasn't slept for more than two hours at a time and I don't know what I'm doing wrong. Her daytime naps are fine (2 naps of about an hour each in her cot or sometimes in the buggy), she eats and drinks well, she is developing really well and is a lovely sunny, if very clingy baby. Why the fuck won't she sleep?
I tried cc for one night and I'm not trying it again. Other than that, I have no idea what to do. Any thoughts? Please?? None of the minds I know seem to have a baby who wakes so consistently often so it has to be that I've done something really wrong somewhere.

Sounds like she has been hot hard by separation anxiety - it's nothing you're doing wrong. Is her cot in your room? Maybe she could do with the reassurance of seeing you sleeping next to her?

She's been this clingy since she was 4 months old! I'm assuming it is a characteristic rather than a phase...

Are you sure she's not overtired? Two naps of an hour isn't that much for a baby. Could you try putting her to bed earlier?

Also, developmental stages are a pain in the arse. If she has just learned to stand, her brain will be telling her to practise at every opportunity. My DS went through a phase of standing up in the night all the time and he was confused and upset. He did grow out of it though.

I have a 10mo waking three hourly for feeds Hmm

Before I kill someone DH I have started reading Dr Ferber's Solve Your Child's Sleep problems. I'm finding it has a lot of useful info about sleep and insight into various problems - it's not cry it out or even controlled crying, more tools to work out what's going on and how to fix, would recommend.

giraffe DD went to bed two hours later than usual tonight because her brain was telling her to practise clapping Hmm
