On holiday and sleep has gone up the creek

Ds2 (22 months) had a perfect sleep routine: up at 6.30am, sleep for 2 hours after lunch, and down to bed at 20.00 then slept through. We are on holiday at the in-laws, he refuses to sleep in the travel cot, hardly ever sleeps in the car (he prefers to scream) and is just driving me mad. Last night I tried every hour from 8pm until midnight to get him to sleep and he just screamed. In the end I co-slept with him falling asleep on the boob (he hasn't fed to sleep for nearly a year!) I can't go survive the rest of my holidays like this but really don't know what to do.

Last night he had about 7 hours of sleep, and I've been trying to get him to nap since 12 and he just hollers every time I put him in the cot. He can also climb out of it.

HELP!
